With all the flooding down here this past year, I could see them bringing in good northern trucks.

Because the US dollar is so strong against the Canadian dollar, US dealers are getting more for their money.

I have not thought of it that way but you're probably right.

True, but the Canadian dealers must be making more shipping them to the U.S. than selling them locally. So it must be a win-win.

The US dealers are buying turned in lease trucks at auctions, not from Canadian dealers.

Dan, whether that end-of-lease vehicle is owned by the dealer or the manufacturer’s finance company, my point is they are not reselling it in the local Canadian market where it was turned in. So, somebody must be making more money shipping the vehicle south. And the Canadian market loses a good used vehicle.

Not entirely true...

My 2013 F150 XLT XTR Ecoboost with 6.6 box went to Portsmouth NH last fall. From Woodstock NB Canada.

The dealership in Woodstock offered me 5 grand more than I owed on my 13, 6 grand more on a trade in than the 2 ford dealerships in Fredericton.
64 thousand kms on it. spotless.
their reasoning is they purchase exceptional used vehicles and sell them to the states dealerships for a premium. that is passed along to the owner in most cases.

This dealership buys hundreds of cars and trucks from private owners and auctions locally and in Nova Scotia and sells them to USA east coast dealerships. They had 21 Fusions there when I was picking up my new truck. ready to be transported to NH.

as long as our dollar sucks against the green back we are getting good prices for trade ins as long as the states are buying.

Maybe we should be posting ads for our used vehicles on Craig's List and have US buyers come up to purchase them!

BTW, I remember overnighting in Woodstock, NB at the Jellystone RV Park. Found a fantastic restaurant at the Irving Oil gas station on Beardsley Rd. on the west side of the Trans-Canada Hwy. Great food.

I went through the Kelly book on line site and had a dealership interested in the truck. as soon as they found out it was Canadian they backed out. must be something with the import paperwork that buggers them up if not from a dealership.

The restaurant has good meals for sure. we eat there a few times a year when we are at the campground ourselves.
Our 5th wheel is stored in the huge buildings behind the Irving station directly across from the campground as well.

Dbledan. Scary ride, do you have an equalizer hitch or equivalent? If not, get one before you ditch the half ton for a bigger truck.

Be aware that a WDH will not reduce the tongue weight of the trailer, it just redistributes the weight across both TV axles. If you were overweight before a WDH, you will be overweight after.

This isn't exactly accurate. While a WDH doesn't technically reduce the tongue weight- this is a static number that is determined BEFORE you hitch up- it will reduce the amount loaded onto the truck. It doesn't just redistribute weight between the 2 TV axles, it also transfers some back to the trailer axles. For example, lets say that with your WDH on the truck but no trailer hooked up, ready to camp, your truck weighs 6000 pounds and has a GVWR of 7000. Your trailer tongue weight is exactly 1000 pounds. If you were to connect the trailer to the truck and NOT engage the WD, your truck would scale at 7000, or very close. Once you were to engage the WDH, some of that 1K TW would transfer to the trailer axles and you would NOT be at 7K if you were to weigh just the truck. The amount transferred to the trailer axles would vary depending on wheelbase of the TT and the TV and the amount you were trying to transfer back to the TV front axle.

Little update, purchased a 2016 Ford F150 locally in Florida with the 3.55, 5.0. Total cargo capacity is rated at 1980 lbs, towing capacity is 9200lbs. Now I feel much safer pulling a 5k lb trailer.

Trailer and truck appear well matched. Have fun with it.

Nice truck! Black trucks look awesome... when they're clean... which is for the first 30 seconds after you finish washing one. I think I did manage to stretch it for a whole minute once.

Agree, only thing I would have changed is the color. It was dirty by the time I drove it home😑
