Plug and play brake controller

To all....I am new to FRF. I searched with no luck on here.

I have a 2007 Yukon XL for tow my 2002 23ft Roo.

I am looking to find out if there are quick connect harness available for installing a BC. also is this a simple install for someone mechanically inclined...kinda....lol

Prefer a good brand...looking for suggestions.

Thanks again everyone!

I recommend the Prodigy P2 or P3.

You can find the controller and wiring harnesses at RVAdventure and other places. Search around for the best price you can.

Etrailer has some good videos on the setup and installation. Its not a hard install if you have the harness to match your truck. Otherwise, its a bit more involved. If you have the harness, its plug and play and the hardest decision is where to mount the BC.

Good luck.

This may work if you are planning on a Tekonsha: Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers - GM Tekonsha Accessories and Parts 3015-P

You might have to have the factory tow package to have the proper wiring harness for the plug in adapter.

the '07 and up GM (GM 900 series) trucks, no longer have a plug-in harness, just a bundled group of wires.
you have to splice the OEM wiring that comes with the Prodigy, into the wiring for the controller.

also, there's a fuse that has to be plugged in, in a fuse panel in the engine compartment, for the BC to work. not sure where it was, since the dealer had to find it.

i hooked up my Prodigy myself, very easy and about 45 minutes of work.
the fuse issue was harder to track down, since i bought my '07 in 2006 and even the Chevy dealer didn't know about it.

That is so weird that GM would do away with the plug in feature. Sure nuff, the wiring harness that I linked to lists models from 2003 to 2006/2007 models....don't exactly know what that means. From the site: Adapter is wired for GM trucks and SUVs from 2003 to 2006 and 2007 classic body style trucks

Yeah, I had to have a fuse or relay installed on my truck to make things work, also.

I'm actually getting one installed this week. I'm getting the P3 and the installer is doing a quick disconnect so I can take out the BC when I'm not towing.

I have a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 5.3 V8. It came with the tow package when I bought it. I ordered a Prodigy P2 from Etrailer.com along with the wiring harness. I had it installed in just a few minutes. It took me longer to find a drill bit than anything else. I plugged the harness into the box below the steering wheel, then into the unit...I was done.

the 2007 Silverado was a transition year, from the "Classic" GM800 series to the later '07 GM900 series.
whereas the 2007 Tahoe, Suburban and Avalanche, were the newer GM900 from the beginning.

the older style '07 Silverado had the plug-n-play harness where the later Silverados didn't.

There are two wires stowed in the engine compartment. One is for power to the trailer seven pin plug (if factory installed) the second is for power to the bc harness which is tied back over or near the steering column inside the cab. The first wire is stowed along the fender to skirt area alongside a wire bundle, the second is tied back under the brake booster. Both are ty-wrapped to main wire harnesses.

Do you foresee an advantage in taking out the BC when not towing? Electrical is not an area of knowledge for me so I am curious. I leave the BC in at all times, towing or not.

The p3 comes with a bag to put it in when not in use if you chose to remove it. It also has a quick disconnect right on it. The plug just plugs into the back of it. I think this BC is the best at least for electric brakes. The way this system is built if you have 2 vehicles you could tow with, all you need to do is buy another install kit for the BC with the brackets and plug. Then you can just move the BC to the other vehicle if need be.

Just had a P3 installed last week when we picked up our new TT. That thing works like a charm. Hands down the best controller I have used. Got it on Ebay for $115. Get it, you will not be disappointed.

@terier, yes I do, I'm not hitting my knee on it, plus I'm customizing my interior with billet, carbon fiber, etc and I don't want some bulky BC on the display.

I have the tekonsha wireless brake controller and it works great. Just plug it in the cigaret lighter when you need it.

4 thumbs up for the Prodigy P3 (DW + me).

We had a Draw-Tite BC that turned out to be a piece of #$%^&. More on this another day. We made a stop at a shop while on our current camping trip to get the new P3 BC installed because the old one was so #$%^& awful.

The P3 came with a little carrying case so we can unplug it and store it for the winter. We didn't pay extra for a plug-in feature. Maybe the latest ones are plug-in? What a terrific BC!

Seems simple....but a little expensive.

I got mine from adventure rv. They had the best price. $277 http://www.adventurerv.net/tekonsha-...l-p-22392.html.

It costs more than a wired one but installation is easy and you don't have a brake controller to hit your knee on, or clutter up the dash.

I learn something new here everyday. I had no idea that Prodigy makes a wireless BC. It wouldn't work well with our setup, though, as I have two 12v power adapters and both are used on our trips. The hard-mounted unit is also a bit cleaner to me because of the lack of a 12-volt cord.

Dang they have the best prices on the Prodigy P2 and P3 controllers I've found so far! Looks like I'll be using them.
