The battery should not be losing acid under any circumstance. The battery case is prolly cracked. Make sure after removing it to water the battery tray down real good with a baking soda mixture to kill the acidity.

I know that wind chill doesn't affect engines. However the wind does make it harder for the block heater to get the engine up to temp and keep it there, as opposed to no wind condition. I cover the rad area to eliminate some of the wind getting under the hood. Stay warm!

My winter cover goes on when it's going to be below 20* for any extended period of time. I also turn on my "high idle", which in combination with plug in & winter cover makes warm up much quicker. I can hit the auto start and by the time the first cycle is almost done, the truck is warming.

x2.. And to keep it up to temp if parked into the wind.... Also - batteries don't like extreme colds either.. Lots of people add a battery blanket to help keep the full capacity of it available..

Mine started no problem in -12 actual temps last week. I doubled up on the power service white bottle @ 16 oz per 20 gallons. Was not plugged in nor in a garage. Parked at work facing north for 14 hrs and still no problem. High volume fuel stops, synthetic oil and fuel additive seemed to be a winning combination. A lot of ...... please Lord, let this thing start was also involved as well.

My experience with my diesel, using synthetic oil in winter as opposed to mineral oil is a night and day difference. Will not go back to mineral oil!!
