Id be happy to be getting double ditches. I'm closer to 8 or 9. Id get out of camping if you are worried about gas mileage. I think the best claim ive seen on hear was an eco diesel dodge 1500 with about a 4k pound rig getting 15.

Sounds perfectly normal to me, though it depends on the year of the TV ... newer models have better transmissions that seem to help a lot more.

2005 Ford F150 5.4L, tow package, 4-speed. Get around 16-17 MPG on the highway. Get around 13.5 MPG around town. Got around 8 MPG when I towed my trailer from IN to CO in 3rd gear the whole way.

I think that you will find that 10.2 MPG will be on the high side when you commence your travels... 7-9 is about average.

Just like an RV up through 50-55 mph appears much better. On a TT, you may see apx half of your normal TV mileage, after that it drops rapidly, not linear and the number is closer to 8.

Now that I have an RV, I notice that all large vehicles (Semis, RV, ...) appear to drive 55-62 or 78 and higher. I guess the first group is mpg sensitive and the later needs to get there in a hurry. I'm surprised at the lack of more than 1 or 2 every 5 hours or so as I travel are doing the speed limit or close when it is posted 70.

x2!
All gassers get towing mpg between 8-11 average.
So you're at the upper end of that range, so you're doing better than most.
So No, 10.2mpg is not poor fuel mileage when towing.

This is pretty well known in the RV community.

If you want better mileage, move to diesel.

I don't know if you have something special, but my 2008 GMC sierra 1500 V8 w towing rates its tires at 35-40, tires are rated at 44 max. Check your manual.

towing MPG varies a lot with wind speed and direction too, plus hilly or level ground... a good tailwind will gain you about 2 MPG

No offense, but all of your noted nifty features above are dwarfed immensely by the 5000 pounds anchor on your rear bumper.

Your truck gets ok mileage empty. Now that you ask it to move the weight of two of your trucks, you're surprised that the mileage is low?

The motor needs to create lots of power to move twice the load it usually does...it takes lots of fuel to do that.

truck has 3.42 gears My speed was 65 mph on the flat a little slower up hills . truck was in tow haul mode most of the way. All highway . Definitely felt like the truck was working hard at times , I just thought it would have towed a little easier.

I have a 2015 GMC 1500 with 5.3 v8. I can get 21 on a trip w/o trailer (70-75 on interstate). I get 11 mpg with camper at 65-70 mph. I even drop to 16 mpg with small trailer and golf cart.

Exactly! When we brought our new Hemisphere home Wednesday the wind was blowing 20-25 with gusts of 30-35. I usually got about 6.5 miles to the gallon when towing our Springdale which weighed about 1500LBS more when all loaded for a trip compared to the empty Hemisphere. Wednesday my fuel mileage was 5!!!

My truck has a fairly big gas tank at 26 gallons . New TT is not that big (24ft) I didnt think I would be looking for gas every 200 miles . My old trailer was a jayco 17z that I pulled with a toyota 4runner and I got better gas mileage with that setup.

weight is one factor the other is the frontal area of the trailer...
an open bed pickup will probably have more drag than a 4runner...

Yup, I'm glad my 150 has a 36 gal tank.... Mileage from Michigan down to Florida and back hit between 8.9 and 12.5 MPG. Got the high number with a strong tail wind running north thru Ohio. Actually made it all the way from Lexington to home on 1 tank (nearly fumes at the end though ).

As said, about average for gas.

One way to improve somewhat is to slow down. Aerodynamics over 50mph causes gas mileage to drop drastically. In addition to the extra weight the frontal area of the trailer is just a huge air brake.
