7.5 lbs/gal diesel x 90 gal = 675 lbs off your payload. Plus the tools. I'm assuming you had margin for that.

That's funny. It's a dually and not even touching the helpers. I don't play the weight game.

Rockfordroo, here's a slip from the scales fully loaded with fuel and all enroute to Florida. I think I'm good.

So... You don't play that "weight game" .. That payload is at least 1billion lbs!

LOL, sorry long, quiet night...

I suspected you'd be OK, but I had no clue what your numbers were, and didn't really want to figure it out. I do know that some Fivers can be quite heavy.

I really made the comment for the benefit others who might do something similar without THINKING about their payload. (After reading these posts for the last 3 years, I know there are a lot of those kind of folks out there. Some guy will think that since you did it, he can do it on his Dodge 1500. "Oh, a 1/2 ton can pull that!")

Wow I am getting a 2016 F350 SB Crew and it only holds 26 gallons, I need the 8 foot bed to get the 37 tank but bed is too long. I may have to look into those six tanks as 26 is just too small, my Crew, SB F140 has a 36?

You and I have different needs. I could NEVER have:
1 short bed
2 single rear wheel
3 a small fuel tank

Wish you the best. Maybe if you need more fuel look into a Titan replacement tank so you don't use up the bed space.

I have the F350 short bed. Can't get long bed or dually in garage. I added the Titan and LOVE that. We seldom drive more than 425 miles and never more than 500 in a day. So if I fill up before we hook up and leave I am good for the day. We stop when we want to.

I will admit I was one of those guys that would have put the toolbox/fuel tank in the bed without thinking. I will scale my setup once we pick up the new Columbus but I am guessing we will be just over 11k on the truck and about 22k total ready for travel. Since the truck is rated for 11,500 and 23,500 combined we will be good but no room for another 50 gallon fuel tank in the bed.

I have learned a LOT from reading these boards and I hope others will do the same for the safety of everyone on the road.

05CrewDually great how you have only had 2 trucks since 1987. I plan on running this one for 14 years (that's when I can retire). Then I'll look at a dually with the extra tanks and trips to Alaska.

I've had and have more than 2 trucks but the Fords are the ones I get the most use out of. Actually I have a 2011 GM and a Dodge still but they're not worth talking about around here. I sure do miss my 87 though.

Those are the best trips. No fun when everyone is upset.

X2. Love my GMC DRW and my 100 gallon Transfer Flow Aux Tank. Can go 1400 miles towing if needed. I must admit I usually only put 50 gallons in the aux tank just to keep weight down. Never tow far enough to need to fill the tank but at $1.69 a gallon it does save money.

I had the same box in my old F450. This time I went the one about 3" taller but takes up less bed space. I've been very happy with the RDS tanks and the locking lid with tool box is just a huge bonus.

Have you done anything to stop fuel from spitting out the vent on top? Mine does it a little when the tank is full. My guess is I'll just put a small hose on it but I'm open to better suggestions.

I am in the process of buying a 2016 F350 King Ranch with 6.7, Crew and Short Box. I am going to use it just the way it is for a year then think about the tank when I move to a fifth wheel right now I am coming from a 2014 F150 Crew SB EB with hardly any Payload 1950 Max, and Max Tow of 11,200. This F350 has a max tow of 15,500 and 3640 If I remember correctly.

That will be nice. I had a hard time deciding on a KR or Platinum. I went Platinum only because of the leather seats.

Options change the payload. My door sticker has me at 3239 for payload. I came from a 2004 F-150 towing the Rockwood 2604. I also ran it last year fully stock. Added the tank because I got real tired of looking for fuel every 200 miles when we were going 400-425 a day. I also added the 5Star tuning this winter. I am NOT deleted and fully stock. They have a towing tune designed for stock. Gives a little more HP and Torque but the changes in the transmission shifting are really nice. I'll see how it does towing in about a month.

Enjoy the new truck. I think I love my truck more every mile I put on it. It is closing in on 13k now.

Also take a look at the DieselSite fuel filter add on. I put it on mine at about 500 miles. Supposed to remove 100% of any water in fuel. It will shut down fuel flow before it will let water thru. Very easy to add and to change out the filters.

Off of the vent barbed fitting I ran a hose out the hole through the stake pocket to under the body by the fuel filler vent hose. Once there, get a T fitting and plumb it into the stock fuel filler vent hose. This way if the aux tank burps it will only be dripping into the main tank instead of all over your driveway. I fill mine to the top and if it was cold out getting the fuel but then warms up expansion alone use to make a mess out of that vent.

I had an 88 F150. Still got the 88 truck brochure, which includes the 250 and 350 models.

Just watch.
3640 might be base trim.
The KR package might cut that down a fair bit.
My ram said 39xx payload.
Sticker is 3747.
Just FYI.

Thanks.
I thought it did very well. I'm not traveling cross county or up any mountains so it suits me fine. The real test for me will be in a few weeks for the first wheeler trip.
