That idea crossed my mind and may be a viable option. Hopefully tomorrow I can see if the drop is going to be low enough.

One thing I did realize as you did, add on parts like if I had to get a new shank for mine is $159.00, I have my old Camco EZ-Lift but I am not going back to bars and Sway Bar type control.... Next week will tell all, going to a fifth wheel at end of 2017 season but I need to come up with a solution for this year and 2017.
Good Luck

Same boat here. Don't want to invest too much as we will probably end up in a 5'er in early 2018. Just thought, I need to check under all of the back seat and make sure there are not any adaptors or hitch pins laying around.

Also, I flipped my shank and lowered the ball as far down as it will go and I'm pretty sure I still don't have enough drop.
Looked in my RV Wholesalers catalogue and saw they carry an Equalizer 2 1/2" shank with I think a 12" drop. Only $200 Any one else run into this situation? Is buying a new shank the best way to go?

I don't know if ford is the same as GM, but I had a Reese adapter when I picked up my truck, and it was hard to line up and lose as can be. Bought an OEM adapter and it has a lip that allows it to only slide back so far in the hitch to where the holes line up and fits tighter. I'd actually ordered a new shank from Etrailer but cancelled the order after getting the OEM adapter.

You can find the class V adapter @ Walmart too. It was around $12.

I had the same problem... when I upgraded to a 3/4 ton a number of years ago I had to get an 8" drop shank. This winter I upgraded TV'S to the dually which has the 2 1/2" hitch... I really don't like the adapter sleeve, it's too sloppy. If I weren't picking up my new 5er today, I would get a new shank in 2.5".

It was a private sale. When I went to pick it up it had a flat tire, so we had to change it with the spare.

Looking for opinions on helper springs VS air bags. My truck is a 2006 Ram 2500 cummins. My truck is mainly to pull our 35' 5er. Any suggestions?

Bags are fully adjustable. Springs are helping all the time, regardless.

I go for air bags, doesn't affect the ride when not inflated. Most helper springs give a harsher ride when truck is unloaded.

I was under the impression that they only take affect when there is a heavy load on them. I'm already in a 3/4ton so it's already real stiff.
