Saw a Cougar next to us this passed weekend. Seems like a super nice camper, would not mind to own one. The only thing, once you pull a 5th Wheel, is hard to go back to Bumper Pull. Just way too different on the driving dynamics and ease to back up. I am spoiled now

Sandstorm Toy Hauler

2001 2500HD 8.1 gasser with Allison Trans. Sure I get 6 mpg but it’s paid for and I can buy a lot of gas for $40k. (Price of a good used diesel) Added a 42 gal transfer tank so stops aren’t as frequent. Toy Hauler is rated at 21000 max.

For my tow vehicle which is a 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 6.2L with max trailering package

Last trip I noticed emergency break away cable was broke so I used a splice connector for the trip then purchased a new coil kind off Amazon.

I have been clipping the break away where the safety chains go which I knew was not correct. I always wanted to find a place on the frame so I thought since I was replacing the cable do it all at once.

I did find a bot the held bumper on so I took it out and replaced with a stainless steel eye bolt. It is about 2 1/2 feet from receiver.

When I had to pull the pin to replace cable I really had to pull on it to get it out. I did disconnect the battery before. I looked it up and it said 40lb of pull to release it.

Here are some pics I took

I do not see a Weight Distribution device installed and the towing vehicle stance is a bit high on the nose. I suggest to get one, a trailer sway is not funny to deal with. Also, on a emergency stop, the tongue weigh (force) will increase, the front wheels will loose traction and steering.

Some to consider.

37' overall frame to tongue, and the the rear is sitting less than 1/2" out of level. That's about as close as it's possible to get I assume. Love the look of these two hitched up going...anywhere.
