Proven Industries Puck locks

Many people recommend the trailer coupler lock from Proven Industries. If you have one of these locks you might want to take a look.

If a thief wants it bad enough they will get what they want any way possible. Take look at all of the videos of ATM machines being stolen.

All a lock does is keep honest people honest

Almost all locks can be defeated given enough time and the right tools. If you want to give thieves a real challenge put it on blocks and take the wheels off 🤣

Not off the campsite but out of my in laws own property. During hunting season we were out to dinner and they came in and stole it. Came through the neighbors property and poof gone. Electric hooked up and lock on tongue. Found the lock on the ground and tire tracks heading in and out. Unfortunately no snow for any real leads. At least our guns were in the car with us.

All a lock does is keep honest people honest

Also keeps thieves from stealing mine cuz yours was easier to steal without a padlock.

My philosophy is simple...make mine just a little bit harder to steal than the guy next to me.

Just so you can see what you are dealing with from a picking and drilling attack on this lock. check out the LockPickingLawyer on youtube.

This isn't new. This has always been the rub with Proven Industries. Great shackle held together by a lock that might even be worse than Master Lock stuff. I'm fine paying $15 for a crappy lock. But, at those premiums, I had better get Abloy-like quality ... at least Abus.

I emailed Proven Industries about this and they have upgraded their puck lock material and the lock mechanism. The material is harder to drill and they changed the position of the spring pin securing the lock making it much more difficult even if you drilled the material to open the lock.

Here is a link to the video,

I realize if a thief wants it he will get it, but this might deter them if it takes too much time and too many drill bits!

I purchased a PI model 2178 for a 2" ball with a red puck lock. Paid the $215 price on their website. It has the circular key but in the 3 youtubes above all I see is the normal looking key. I have seen videos of circular lock tools that can remove a lock (not sure how well made PI pucks with the circular key design are). Should I be wary of the lock they sent me?? Also, what material is my puck lock made of, aluminum or SS?? Any input appreciated. The lock lawyer speaks highly of PI but suggests the pucks may be inferior depending on the material. PI makes better quality pucks but am not sure if got one of those, lol.

If you paid $215, then you got the aluminum model ... it's probably anodized some pretty color. To benefit from the security and the improvements, you need to pay the $100 premium for the stainless steel.

Thanks Grammer, yes, I was thinking the same thing. Am requesting the better lock today from the nice customer service lady. Not to sound like a whiner, but their online ad shows a picture of the 2178 model then scrolling pics, you see the higher quality lock, flat keys, and the the hitch that matches mine. Very misleading. Only do you see the option to the better lock (and the $315 price) is on the puck lock option. Guess I missed that.

Not from a campsite, but had our TT stolen right out of our driveway. It had two locks on the hitch. We're convinced that they just pulled in with a flat bed and made off with it, locks and all.
