I have the cab lights as well. I have similar bars but they are wheel to wheel which makes grabbing things out of the back easier.

I thought about getting those.. the used 2014 I was looking at had them on it and I liked them. In the end I have other expenses like bed liner, tool box steps etc I need to purchase yet so I passed on them. But I do like that look!

Yes you will pull some RPM here and there but I think it is going to tow better than you suspect. First time I towed my camper with it was from NC to CT and that was before my wife got to load all of her "stuff" in it. I was amazed at how well it held 6th gear on the highway and that was more weight than you will be pulling.

Mike, that's good to hear! I know 6-6.5K isn't a lot of weight so I don't think Ill have much issue, but I should be pretty solid now with passing semis and wind gusts etc.

I looked for the full length. Couldn't find them for the long bed, except with dedicated steps for each area ( front, back & bed ). And they were not stainless, all black. They may have worked fine, but I preferred the stainless with the unbroken look. Just a personal taste thing.
Nice set up by the way.

I have the same Ram 2500 with 6.4l in RED. Ordered a 2017 last summer with wheel to wheel step boards, but no cab lights. First long trip with my 7000+ Flagstaff was Ohio to western Louisiana (1000+ miles). Hardly knew it was back there. Mileage was 8-10
on the trip meter.

If you don't mind me asking, what is your payload rating per the door sticker? Trim package? Rear end? Tow capacity?
I'm trying real hard not to buy the same truck. My Rockwood is just short of 8k loaded and I am right at my GCVWR. Makes for interesting rides in the wind with my F150.
thx

Hi!.. The Only numbers I remember off the top of my head, and that is the payload. It lists as 3,030 Pounds per the door sticker. I " THINK" Towing is rated at 12.2K
Trim Package is the Tradesman, but with options, like nicer stereo, backup cam, anti spin rear diff, etc..
I have the 3:73 gear set.. Which will be just fine for me. I am now on a ram forum and there is a guy on there who pulled a 15K boat across 4 states with the 4:10 and he had good results.
Seat of the pants feeling is that the 3:73 is a good compromise between mpg and towing for under 10K weights.
But your issues is the reason I traded my f150 super crew 4x4 ecoboost for that . I had a 1500 poundish cargo capacity and by the time I calculated tongue weight and passengers and a few camping items I had very little room for anything else.
Getting passed by Semi's and driving on a windy day just wasn't enjoyable.
It wasn't that bad going camping within an hour of the house, but we have plans this spring and summer to go significantly further away and I just didn't want to feel dealing with it for a 4-6 hour trip.
I haven't towed with it yet, thats still a few weeks away.. But I REALLY Like it so far. I like the eight foot bed.. my ford had the 5.5' bed.

I agree that you are better off having a newer truck with a warranty but with less bells & whistles than a used truck with overpriced trim options, yet no warranty.
In 2013 I bought a used 2011 Ram 2500 CC Tradesman w/5.7 Hemi, 3,030 payload, seating for 6, & balance of Ram's power-train warranty for only $14,000. Over a year later, at 96,000 miles, just 4K short of the warranty, my Hemi dropped a valve & self-destructed on my daily commute. Even though I was the 2nd owner, Ram replaced the Hemi under warranty, no questions asked, and the new engine came with new 3 year/60K warranty!
The 5.7 Hemi has no trouble towing our 8,000 lb. TT (15,000 GCVW) throughout the Smoky Mountains so I'm sure your 6.4 will do even better. IMO the 3.73 gearing is better for commuting & if/when you go out West it will just drop to the gear/speed you need to get up the hill.
We don't need the bells & whistles... I use a $100 refurbished GPS that has free map updates & my cell phone plays all of my music via Pandora, MP3s, etc. We never use the DVD player in our van because the kids just bring their $40 cell phones and/or $40 tablets to stay entertained on long trips... .
Now that my truck's paid-off I've starting adding some "bling"... First was a like-new fiberglass cap found on CL for $500. Looks SUV-like now with its tinted windows... Next will be some running boards & lights - all cheaper to do DIY after-market...

We have 6 children.. Only 2 (11 and 12) are still in the house, but you never know when someone may tag along.. A crew cab was a must!
