PullRite problem

I am in PA and the capture plate broke for my hitch. Looks like the one side was welded and the other was just tacked on. The hitch turned while going down the hiway. And it was allmoßt impossible to unhook. PullRite said they will ship one to my house. 400 miles away in NC. As you can see the difference and the mounting is also bent

Wow, that is ugly. Sorry to hear. I have issues with my capture plate getting loose. I have to tighten it every few days of travel. Sure hope it never breaks as yours did.
Good luck

I'd have them ship it to the campground where you are located. Don't understand why they'd have a issue with that. I know some companies have problems with delivering to a "business", however, seems to me they at least need to make an exception in your case and situation!

I agree with rschleder. I think your problem is very unusual, however. I know the capture plates are different for each application and have different mountings, but Pullrite should be all over a faulty welding issue.

They offered but we have to head home on Saturday. They did call all the dealers in a 100 mile range and none of them have the right plate in stock. There is a welder staying in the campground that has his welding rig he is working on a pipeline job he is fixing in the morning.

Took the hitch to a local PullRite dealer today. Was told that there is damage to the jaws that are bent and nawing. Also the pin has nawing. Won't be able to tell if there is damage to the slide till it is taken apart. It appears that the hitch turned sideways while going straight so that when the truck turned the slide was forced back into position.

PullRite is saying that the failure is due to lack of lubrication. Well send me out of good faith a hitch head and a capture plate if I pay shipping. Dose this look like lack of lubrication? This is bull good product but they won't stand behind what is a defect.

I hate that you are having problems with the capture plate...I will be sure to check the bolts before I pull this spring cause I have not given it much thought. I do lub with WD-40 as required maybe too much but who knows what is excessive.

Having used a PullRite for several years, I can visualize a lack of lubrication causing the hitch head to freeze to the rails causing the capture plate to fail when you turned the rig, but I don't see how PullRite can determine that without examining the hitch, which I suspect they haven't done. I'm a bit surprised they haven't stepped up to make you whole. Still, you may have to accept paying for the shipping to get you back into enjoying camping.

I use a small can of WD40 in a 1,000 mile trip in a week. And I store the hitch in the garage when not being used. And they said it looks like it is under lubed.

How long have you had yours? Only time I lube mine is when I'm un-hitched....wipe rails, swing side to side to lube, lube the center wear area, check the thrust bolt for adjustment and go! Also, a little WD 40 on the surface plate. Been using about 2 years now I cover mine when not in use, as it's a hand full to remove.

Just over 2 year's now. Use hoist in garage to remove takes 20 minutes at the most to do.

I don't think the pin itself will be a problem, maybe run a flat file around it..strange thing!

Your rails look just like mine did after use. The rails do not look like the head has ever seized on them. The lube instructions from PR have changed over the years. Mine required a spray of white lithium grease.

If you look at the first pix you will see a full weld on one side of the capture plate and just two tack welds on the other.

i did read somewhere you can retro the older one with some of the newer parts
