Bag it and go for it. The running gear is the same. It's the rear coils and the 10,000 GVWR thats your limit. If you can keep your pin at 3000 lbs you be under the RAWR.

Bag it and go. Who cares about the trucks ratings. He already traded up at no loss at all.

My new 5th wheel is 11k pounds with a 2,300 pound pin weight. I would of rather had the larger buffer on both payload and tow capacity.

3.73 gears you mean.

Glad it is working out for you. Excellent dealer-I am sure you will never forget it. I give you credit for even posting the problem. I hope others will learn from it. Happy camping.

When I bought my TT I too was assured that I was within the towing capabilities of the the Tundra I owned at the time. While I did enjoy a full summer towing it around, I started to figure out that I was just at my limits with little or no margin. That might have been ok for towing around out east where I live since it's relatively flat but became worried as we booked a 2+week trip out to the Rockies this summer.

Your state will appreciate all of the sales tax you will be paying for both vehicles.

You don't pay taxes on your "traded-in" value...if his dealership does the paperwork correctly, he will have to pay taxes on the additional $1300 for the 3500 and that's it.

We pulled a Windjammer 3001w with our (existing) GMC 5.3 1500 and didn't have any real issues, but we had to watch every pound when loading. We knew we were going to get a FW sooner or later so last year we bought a 3500HD Duramax CC DRW with 4630# payload just so we wouldn't have to worry about payload. Still, when looking for the FW, we found several that we couldn't pull and be under limits. But, we had a much wider range of FW to look at and we purchased a SOB FW with 15,500 GVW. I think everyone has exactly the same issue as you have; it just makes you that much smarter when you trade again.

That is not how I have ever seen it done.
Your sales tax is based on the selling price of the vehicle.
Not what you are paying for it after your trade in.

Wow! That's great news and you should really do your truck dealer a favor and publish contact information (in case someone is looking for a new truck). The truck dealer *technically* didn't have to do that for you, but they did do you a favor - pay it back to them... They sound like a good one.

Like others have said, that is a standup dealer. Mention their name here so others can get good service from them and possibly send some business their direction. Probably for that dealer, moving 3/4 ton units is easier than 1 ton units....its all about the market. No matter, they won't be losing out by treating you right.
Good luck!

In Tennessee you only pay taxes on the difference in trade. Example: new purchase is $35,000 and you are allowed $30,000 for vehicle you are trading in tax is figured on the $5,000 difference.

Not to rain on the parade- but this very likely means he made a killing off of you and definitely wants you coming back. If you had it whittled down to the bare bones on the deal, he wouldn't be able to absorb that loss.
