She drinks like a pig when hitting the hills and we have some good ones. But she does what she needs to do and has been a great truck. Pulls up grades just fine sure the engine revs but that’s what gassers do they rev. Just have to find the good rpms and stick to them and you will do fine. Around town when you don’t have a paper weight attached they are quite and relatively efficient. If you are doing hilly terrain it doesn’t hurt to carry some extra fuel for those remote areas.

Trailer is probably around 8500 lbs loaded and truck is a 08 with 4.10s. Do all my own maintenance and repairs myself which really hasn’t been anything besides one set of brakes and a bunch of oil changes.
192000 miles and she still purrs like a kitten.

I have the Silverado 2500 hd, tow a trailer 26 feet long. Pulls the trailer without a grown. Gas mileage is nothing to brag about, 9 mpg when towing, but that is with a boat and outboard loaded in the truck bin. Overall I have averaged 13 mph, using mostly for towing and hauling boat, but occasionally without either. With both the trailer and boat I get about 275 miles between gas fills with 36 gallon gas tank. that is without running too low and gambling I will make it to the next station. These figures are for all types of highways and roads including gravel. I had the 1500 before the 2500 and it towed okay but the rear sank quite a bit when hitched and boat aboard, even with equalizer hitch. Still need equalizer for 2500 but more for sway control than equalizer.

Got my Diesel this year for our 36' 11,060 lb trailer. Prior to that, I pulled a 6500lb trailer with a F-150 Lariat 5.4 and a 1500 LT 5.3. for 10 years and no trouble outside of 7-8 mpg.

Good luck with your decision.
It will if it's racing a 5.4 Ford 😎

I had a 2006 Chevy 2500HD with the 6.0 and 4 speed transmission and 4.10 rear I thought it struggled in the Rockies and the Sierra's towing 6K the gas mileage was around 7mpg to 8mpg at best. The 26 gallon tank didn't help my range either but I will say it was stable and felt solid towing plus it had a nice payload rating at 3096.

I am sure the new 3/4 tons gasser's have made great strides in the past 11 years with HP, Torque and Transmissions. We bought a new Rockwood 2703 in April of 2015 the Chevy was stolen in August 2015 and I decided to replace it with a diesel and I couldn't be happier.

2500HD

I had a 2013 2500HD with the 6.0 V8. Towing was no problem, but the dang thing rode like a truck! Now towing with an F250.

I just traded off my 2016 CHEV 2500 and went back to the diesel. Nothing wrong with the truck except when used for towing an 11000# Cottage. It did the job here in Florida except for the I95 overpasses, RPM would skyrocket and MPG nosedived to 4. I went with the FORD F350 and I will take my chances with all the emissions issues. This is one awesome tugboat.

I drove everything made in 17 before buying and did a little time in a 2015HD 6.0...and I agree it was pretty harsh. In 2017 the GM HD's were new...and the ride is much improved. Of all of the big three HD's I thought GM had the best ride but it also had the longest wheelbase of the trucks I drove, so not an equal comparison.

Traded a 15 gas for a 16 diesel. Gas mileage was 7 and pulling a decent grade at 35mph was turning 4500. 4500 is fine, just a bit noisy.

The 6.0 gas just doesn't have it. Sorry. Bring back the 8.1!

Does ok but..............

I have a '09 2500 HD, 3:73 Z71, 6.0, 6 speed.
I'm pulling a Sprinter 269 FWRLS 5th wheel weighing in around 11,000.
I get 7-9 mpg depending on the wind and terrain. It rarely pulls in 6 gear.

My biggest complaint is not being able to pull very often with the cruise on in 5th or 6th. If I set the cruise it will shift all over the place and the tranny temp starts creeping north. I try to lock it in 5th and use the cruise but it still searches around more than I like. So I leave the cruise off and use my foot. It has handled the Smokies and Missouri/Arkansas Ozarks just fine. Have a friend pulling a similar trailer with the same truck and the Duramax. He just sets his cruise to 65 and sets back. Truck never hardly shifts. But he is only getting 10 mpg.

As far as the suspension, it works, comeon its a Chevy.

X2. We had a 2008 GMC, then went to a 2013 Silverado. Big difference with trans and towing with the 5-speed .

Interesting on the cruise control... Your trailer is a little heavier and I have a better gear ratio for pulling and a newer model year but I just set the cruise.

The hottest I saw on trans temp was 180 with this truck. That day was over 90 with the ac blasting and stuck in traffic that was almost coming to a stop then accelerating to 40-ish over and over again for several miles. My last truck never had a temp below 185ish when working on flat ground.

I have a very good friend that has a 15 2500 gas engine, he pulls a 5er that weighs in 10,000 - 11,000 lbs. he has no problems pulling, truck does great. You just need to be aware that the rpm range is high, 4,500 - 5,500 rpm's is normal on hills. Only downside is he averages 8.4 mpg

I would buy an 8.1 tomorrow if they did. I had 2 of them and wish I had one now. I think GM is missing the boat with this one being gone.

I have a 2015 supercrew 2500 with the 6.0 and 4.10 gears. The truck is a beast, I pull our 333rets and have zero issues. The dynamic engine braking is awesome and the truck just pulls.

2500 HD

Came from a 2005 duramsx and bought a 2015 Gas and the milage and towing are pretty much the same on normal roads. You will notice the difference in the Mountains but not to the point I would spend 10K for the diesel Slow down and enjoy the view....going down the mountains the chevy tranx kept the speed under control as good as the allison tranx..very satisfied with the 2500

Under 10,000# a gasser is fine, especially with few hills and fewer mountains as the weight approaches 10,000. If I were pulling up to 8500 and only east of the Mississippi I may have one. Pulling nearly 15,000# and not wanting to be limited where I go, the F350 6.7 is the way to happily travel. On my 2nd 6.7 and average just over 50,000 miles annually. Just oil changes and tire rotations.
