Hooks fit

I thought the same thing about the hooks when I upgraded my truck but they do fit. You just have to put them in at an angle, up then down. There is not need to buy larger hooks. I bought larger hooks before I figured out that you can use the standard hooks on the Chevy 2500HD hitch.

Get a couple of " Screw Pin Anchor Shackles" from most major hardware stores. Make sure they are screw pin type, install them on your hitch were the chains go and crank them tight when installing them.

The chain hooks will then fit into the shackles.

Safety chains are to keep the trailer from crossing over and killing someone else. Snap hooks will break you need to get the right hook to fit the hitch without adapting it.

Replacing the hooks (like PSU Turf suggests) is the best way.

If you insist on using quick-links (and can find them with a high enough rating), please don't leave them on the truck when not towing. I hate that! Looks like a pair of ear-rings on an otherwise manly truck.

Better than the other things you see hanging from the hitches.

Don't worry, what ever avenue I pursue it will not be left dangling on the hitch. I don't even leave my hitches on unless I am towing.

That happens up there too? Thought it was just the rednecks down here, and the livestock trucks

This is what I ended up doing. Found the 3/8 hooks at Trucks n' Trailers in Chattanooga today. Still need to get them on my chains though.
