Question for 3500 dually owners

I'm trading my 31' TT on a 5er and need to bring it to the dlr about an hour's drive...I'm not giving my WD setup to them so I'll be removing it before I take the trailer in....has anyone towed with no WD with 1k lb TW? My understanding is that's what the factory delivery guys do taking them to the dlrs. Just wondering what kind of handling I can expect.

I'm not one to take the risk on a big trailer like that. So I wouldn't consider driving 60 miles with out the WD. Can't you pull the trailer with the WD and remove it at the dealer? Or have the dealer remove it?

Another option might be to have the dealer pick it up from you. I know my dealer did that for a few folks who are buying from them.

Why don't you drive to the town the dealer is in with it on & take it off at a near by Walmart or other parking lot...............................???????????????? ?? Take some WD40 with ya.....

Largest trailer I have driven any distance without the WDH is my 20' Box trailer mainly (shows I'm getting old) because I forgot I had it....... been pulling a fiver too long...................

If the dealers won't remove it for you, most will. I would just break the bolts loose at home, so that way you know that you can get everything off. Then just take the wrenchs with that you will need and remove it at the dealer.

I've haul my 31' TT about 45 mins to the mechanic once a year without using the WDH. I drive reasonably without any problems. key here is reasonably. I think my top speed at most is 55 for a short stretch.

X2 what RPAspey said. As long as you don't need the WD setup to keep it from being to much out of level which I would doubt since you likely will have the trailer unloaded.

update: I left the wd on & took the trade in...the whole way we had unbearable bounce from the back of the truck being so stiff...took a link out & got better...then 15 min from the dlr, stopped for lunch and removed the whole system...towed fine but WAY less bounce....conclusion...would not have needed it at all....sure hope the new 5er doesn't bounce like that!

This brings up a good point,I have (Never) seen a (Transporter from the Factory) install a (W/D hitch or Sway control) on any New trailer before leaving the Parking Lot of the plant! I know they are unloaded. Youroo!!

Sound like something was off but glad you didn't have any major issues. I do not get any noticable bounce with either of the fifth wheels we have had but my pin weight is close to 3000lbs on our current one....... Bumper pulls I have only towed our box trailer full of our sons furniture once any distance.
