IF you need more payload make sure you order whatever it takes to get the numbers up to what ever you need, because the numbers that the manufacture puts on each trucks safety compliance certificates are written in stone, and there is nothing you can do to increase them. It's the manufactures numbers that the Ministry of Transportation / Dept. of Transportation in each Provence and State use to calculate if your are violating any safety standards related to being over loaded.

I did NOT start this thread to be a weight police thread. If someone is a few hundred over, that is THEIR business. If someone wants to tow a Fifth Wheel or some monster camper with one, then we can advise to get a bigger TV. There are more dangerous crap on the road that I would rather worry about than someone a tad overweight. Thank you!

I took a trip off from my rail job so I can bring my Libby to get some work done, mostly Suncoast Torque Converter and other minor work. I noticed that the Ram 1500 that was en-route to a local dealership had arrived (I was actively checking 8 local dealerships). So, what did I do? I took the short trip to the dealership to take a test drive.

They brought it around to me, so it was running when I walked outside. I was amazed at how nice and quiet it was. I was up and under and all around that thing. Few things I noticed mechanically.
-Transmission pan is ribbed and aluminum, sort of like a Mag-hytec pan.
-Oil drain looks to be just just higher than the crossmember. I may be scared to put a Fumoto valve.
-Fan is a nice big electric
-There is so much available information on the multi-display. Oil Pressure, Oil Temp, Transmission Temp, Water Temp were the things I remembered.

Not driving a pickup since the 90s, I wasn't use to the harder ride, but it was comfortable. 1st gear, even with the 3.55 gears, was really low. Just like the CRD, it took a second to build a little boost to get full power. There were no problems accelerating. The transmission selection will take time to get use to. The rotary dial is different, and the +/- gear selection on the steering wheel was convenient. Just like my Caliber, if you want to go from manual selection to automatic, just hole the + or - button for a few seconds.

Driving was nice and quiet. Basically, you could not tell that it was a diesel. It was enjoyable.

Reasons why did I not buy it now.
1) No Integrated Trailer Brake. That is a deal breaker.
2) No Trailer Tow Mirrors. Deal breaker #2
3) 3.55 gears instead of 3.92 gears. 1000lb difference in tow rating.
4) Not an Outdoorsman with the LT tires. This is not a deal breaker, as I would get aftermarket rims and tires.
5) Bucket seats instead of 40/20/40 bench seat. Again, not a must have, but we occasionally want to have 6 people to go places and not want to take 2 vehicles.

On the way home, I spotted my first Libby CRD since July of last year. I need to make cards to hand out about this site.

Out of curiosity- do you know if the fuel tank will take the high flow nozzles from truck stops?

Doug, I was looking at that. There looks to be 2 valves to push the nozzle through. The 1st looks like it would, but the inner one doesn't appear to. I was actually tempted to put a couple of dollars worth of fuel just to see how the capless system worked.

I wonder if it's the same system they're using on the 2500 and 3500 trucks. I know they went to capless once they needed DEF in MY2013.

I can't see why it would be different.

One thing I can think of, it comes with a funnel for fueling with a can. I wonder if the funnel is large enough, that if needed, you can fill up slowly using one of those firehose diesel pumps at truck stops. I carry one that does that in the Jeep, made by Audi.

I didn't, because it wasn't what I wanted. I forgot to mention, it was the 6' bed instead of the 5'. I am thinking the smaller bed so that there is less chance of going over payload, and if I did, it would be by less.

I think the max it 9200#. It depends on the model. I went to the RamTruck site and there is a calculator for each model configuration. Shows my Tradesman with a 1470# payload and 7730# tow capacity. Pulled my 4000# TT around the block like it wasn't there! Love the integrated trailer brake controller. Gonna take it on a little road trip next month, and will have MPG numbers while towing. I'm averaging 32 MPG in about 70/30 highway/city driving without the trailer.

I have a 2014 Laramie 4X2 with the new EcoDiesel and it is a real nice truck.
Saturday 7/19 I pulled a new to me 2005 Rockwood Roo 21ss from SC to GA for some 170 miles, it was 40% country road and 60% highway, raining the entire time and about 75f and all hills. I have about 30+ miles of very long grades, and the truck had plenty of power. I was passing people in the left lane without any issue.
Below you can see my set up and a picture of my fuel stats.

Was that 34 miles per gallon using the computer on the truck or the actual gallons pumped in the truck figured with a pencil

I have the diesel and have gotten 27-28 mpg consistently at~75mph hills and flat. ~ 24 mpg around town mild city driving. Tows a 4700lb tt without drama through NC mountains 12.5-14 mpg.
