I do a lot of highway driving and found keeping the exhaust brake on help when people pull out in front of you with signaling.
Also the dealer informed me that people have gone 80k mile before brake change using the exhaust brake.
Sounded logical to me, is there a negative side to using the exhaust brake?

Tow/haul does not allow to shift in to higher gear as quick. I don't see the need to use this with no load.

On our 2008 Ram 2500 I have Installed a H&S Mini Max tuner, in options menu is a diesel brake always on feature . but it can be turned off if desired. with the dash switch.

It was -36 here this morning.

Even when not towing I use exhaust brake and tow haul mode.

Not quite sure how. Fast idle sensors note the air temp and adjust accordingly to insure how fast it will take to get to optimal working temps.
Mind if i ask where you were when it was minus 36

I just turn on the Cruise Control and it goes into a higher RPM for warm up. What does enabling the Exhaust brake do to warm up faster if you are not braking?

Ah, missed the part of the higher idle until I just re-read it. Turning on the Cruise Control does the same thing.

The negative to using the exhaust break for warm ups is that it may foul up the exhaust portion of the turbocharger resulting in a P2262 error code. It may also foul up all that anti pollution equipment. On our 2007 6.7 3500, I used the exhaust break for faster warmups when the temperature was near the freezing mark and got an error reading 80% full on the catalytic converter system. Had to waste fuel for about an hour of highway driving to clean it out. Since then I too did the exhaust delete and added the Mini Max Tuner however in our low teen temperatures I did get the P2262 error. This morning's Temp in mid Sask. was -31 .

Using the exhaust brake is different than just a high idle.

With the mod plug, it will turn on brake and high idle when remote started.

Guess i missed where this was going. My manual say's basically the same thing. It's intended to get warm air for the cab faster. Interesting. My manual also say's"the exhaust brake feature will only function when the driver toggles it on by pushing the exhaust brake button until the "Exhaust Brake Indicator" is illuminated.
