You're lucky enough to live in perpetual summer year round. For those of us that reside in the road-salt belt our truck bodies wouldn't last long enough for multiple rebuilds.

We have a nicely equipped ‘17 Big Horn dually with the high output Cummins. With a full tank of fuel, driver and one pax the remaining payload is 5,820. That’s a number derived from the CAT scale.

This is true. But, you could buy a used one from my area, rebuild it if needed, and still be way ahead

I would love a new truck, but I love no payment and no emissions more.......

Did Ford make a downgrade for 2019? My 2018 F-350 is rated at 935 Lb-Ft

Tq and 450HP. Your numbers sound more like the 2017 ratings.

Do I need or want 1,000 Lb-Ft Tq for pulling a larger sized 5er... nope. Definitely not for the bonus price Ram wants for theirs.

You realize that those things aren't mutually exclusive, right? There are many foreign companies that maintain operations here in the US. That means that you can, as you mention, interact with their staff without leaving the US. It's still a non-US company, though.

And, if you want to get picky about the grammar, they're isn't correct, either. The pronoun is it's, as there is but a single company. "Buy a Ram, it's a foreign company that loves the American consumer's money."

I'll leave it for others to decide if any of that matters.

Steering back to topic. The payload of a truck ought to do more with the axles, frame thickness, suspension, and other components. Thus, the high output engine shouldn't have much to do with the payload. The article mentioned a few times that the engine was using weight-reducing components. So, maybe the HO engine is actually a few pounds lighter than standard. Either way, I'd expect it to be very similar to current payloads. Figure 3,300 - 4,300 for a SRW.

I didn’t see it mentioned about the 6.4 and the 8 speed tranny where did you see that ?

I hope I just missed it. That’s the news I was hoping to hear.

I did see the 8 speed for the Cummins. Part of the high output 1000 ft/lbs. I read about it a while ago. It’s the Aisin 8AP.

Ford introduced a 10 speed to the 1/2 ton line a few years back. I have read that it will introduce a HD version of the 10 speed into the F250/F350 line with the 2020 model.

Some may like this, but it only makes me want to hurry up and get a truck while I can still get the bullet-proof 6R140 transmission. I foresee lots of messes with these transmissions with 8-10 speeds.

Was in the article about the new Rams. They talked about 3500 and 2500. Here is just a small part of the article

The final available engine is the standard 6.4-liter Hemi V-8; it’s good for 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque and uses the eight-speed automatic exclusively. Whichever gearbox is underneath, the Ram Heavy Duty employs the familiar shift-by-wire rotary gear-selection dial instead of a console or column-mounted shifter. The part I don't like is the rotary dial to shift.

Later RJD

sounds good until the rotary dial. not a fan but if it had paddle shifters it might not be to bad.

You changed the sentence and it reads better. I wasn't trying to re-write it. In fact, I wasn't trying to correct it. The other guy did ... and did a poor job of it. I can let bad grammar slide. I can't, apparently, let someone incorrectly correct someone's bad grammar.

I must be doing something wrong, towing, getting groceries, or just riding around I can only think of a few times when I actually started to use all of the available torque/power that our 13 year old weak in the knees 650 ft lbs of torque this 200k mile Duramax has to offer. Are all the bells and whistles really worth it? I actually drove a 2015 home tonight, I told my wife that I was glad we got the body style we got, so much more comfortable. Oh well, daddy always told me I was a slow learner.

Its in the article, but Cummins is keeping the 6 speed trannys for now.
