Ram trucks

Seems I heard something about Ram trucks cheating on the diesel emissions test today. Looks like another company following in VW footsteps in cheating on emissions tests.

Ram trucks

News tonight, their fine could be 2-4 billion if true. Of course, Fiat says it's a fable.

It's kinda awkward but it's only the foreign countries that's doing this. Ford and Chevrolet play by the rules. VW denied the charges at first, it's going to cost VW a whole lot of money.

I believe it's true about Fiat-Chrysler. Asked my BIL who is a big-whig design engineer at Fords. They are all talking about the implications up in Dearborn.

Guess we will have to see how it plays out.....

NO! The EPA went after Navistar, Cummins and Caterpillar diesel engines too. That's why Cat does not sell on highway engines any more and you can not find them in new motor homes. The EPA keeps changing the rules on diesel engine emissions. See the lawsuit that the EPA lost against Navistar in 2012

My feelings are that the EPA wants everyone to drive electrical powered vehicles. So all of the pollution to the environment occurs in foreign countries not in the US. As an example the battery materiel that is mined in China for these batteries is highly pollutant and hazardous to the environment.

I don't think that is fair. The EPA reasonably wants companies to comply with the law and calls them on it when they don't.

From the Washington Post yesterday:

Janet McCabe, head of EPA’s Office of Air and Radiation, said “no immediate actions are necessary” for owners because their vehicles are still safe and legal to drive.

Janet is going to be looking for a job fairly soon. This Fiat thing must be her last hurrah.

Well no matter what the EPA does, it will be California that will take on Fiat.

I spent the last 10 years of my design career working on tractors/Diesel engines to meet the EPA regulations for diesels. You would not believe how difficult it was working with the EPA and trying to get direction on what they would allow or not allow. Such as SCR reduction systems or DPF and exhaust gas recirculation, at first they would allow in the SCR systems, but then they change their mind and said no. Then they came backand said yes to the SCR systems all with in two years.

Not really. Just so mired down in their own regs and disciplines, they can't figure out what they really want.

EPA is the same thing and it's all very counterproductive to economic advancement.

That's not really the problem it's when you develop software that is designed to cheat when you do the emissions test.

Actually, the real issue is that Tier 4 final mandates ruined the diesel engine. Certainly glad I don't own one...and I never will either.

The people of China wish they had an EPA.
