Let me start with a big ;^)
This mileage was after 500 miles towing. Reset at start of trip. This is avg mpg, not current. Most of trip was I-20 at 62 mph. I, too, can go to next item on dash for current mpg and peg out the graph at 60+ mpg. I've determined that's why mountainous terrain gives better mpg. 4 mpg up hill and 60 + mpg down hill avgs higher than flat country at 10 mpg.

Just finished 3250 miles from Montana to Northern CA, up the coast to Portland, up the Columbia Gorge through the panhandle of ID and back to MT. We crossed the divide several time, and had a lot of windy mountain driving as well as high altitude driving. We also had a lot of desert driving on interstate at 70-75 MPH. Keep in mind our 5th dry is over 14k lbs. We had a full load with water and food for 5. I would guess about 16k lbs. We got 10.5 mpg for the entire trip.

I used all the power our Duramax had to offer on some of those divide crossings.

I'll throw in -
Average 8.5mpg pulling in Michigan - two trips.
between 60-65mph, running in overdrive on the flats @ 2000rpm with no problem. Trans never got over 180deg, engine 200deg - Air conditioning running the whole time.

Love my Silverado!

Come on down to Arizona, we can increase those transmission and engine numbers considerably.

'12 Tundra, 5.7 with 4.30 gears. Both longer trips this year were on SR37 (Indiana) and other state highways with lots of towns, stop and go, and hills. Our 261BHXL weighs around 5500# with water and gear. Calculating by hand I came up with 11 mpg, regardless of having the AC on or not. I honestly consider that pretty decent. And I drive like an old man.

I'm surprised you get 10mpg pulling that large of a trailer. I think I have a shot at 12mpg if I can get some interstate running. Taking off constantly from stop lights are mpg killers when towing. I would get 12-13mpg when towing our 4100# hybrid last year.

I see a noticeable difference between 60-70 mph. I'm usually in the 60 range to get the 10 mpgs.

Dcheatwood, how much air (PSI) you put in your Air Lift 5000? Mine I vary from 15psi and 20PSI. It seems to not matter in the way the truck rides...

I run 5 not towing and 45 or 55 when towing. It helps most with sag and bottoming out on bucking roadways like we have here in LA. Really noticeable but you have to pump it up. I have wireless remote so I can adjust on the fly. Found 55# feels best in most cases towing.

Agreed. I run the same. I believe the book says 1 psi for every 50 lb of added pin weight.

Yes, 50 psi in bags supports a 2500lb load, 100 psi supports 5000lb load etc...

At that ratio I'd be running 25-30 psi with 1300-1400 pin weight. Seems less bouncy at 55 psi. I like the idea of taking some of the pounding off of the springs too.

19.5L/100km since I'm in Canada. That's "aboot" 12.1 mpg so far over 6000 miles.
It's still a lot of fuel at 1.375 CD/liter.

We got 8.7-8.9 out of our new "bus" pulling through the mountains our last trip. I think we might be able to break into the 9s on flat ground, how exciting!
