Rear Bumper Receiver Addition - Small Triple Tow
I'm sure this has been discussed, but if anyone can direct me to the right location, would be greatly appreciated.
Looking to add a CURT Receiver to the rear bumper of our 2306 Mini Lite to pull a small 8 foot trailer with a motorcycle. Less than 150 lb. tongue weight. Less than 1k pound GVWR. The bumper "looks" sturdy enough. Wondering if anyone has made the same mod? Thanks in advance!

No chance, without some serious fabrication and reinforcement. Is it even legal to double tow with a tt anywhere? Most people have problems with adding bikes or a cooler.

There are about 28 states that allow it, but the first towable needs to be a fifth wheel.

Yes, it is. I know the Louisiana is one.

Myself I would not put a receiver hitch on the bumper, when I added my hitch to my rig I went with the curt adjustable frame mount (no welding) hitch. I tow a 19.5 open bow boat with no problems.

Yep, you have an ultralight frame, which isn't engineered for that kind of load.
The frame has a 5 year warranty, I think, and doing such a thing, will clearly void the warranty.
Not sure how you determined that the bumper was "sturdy" because the welds are notoriously wreak and thin.

Many mid-west (Alabama, Arkansas, Mo, OK, Louisiana, Texas) and southern states TT doubles is legal with certain restrictions. Most restrictive as far as I read is Texas. Primary tow must be under 4500 gross and 60 foot max overall on entire rig. Anyway, I've been looking at USED rigs in the Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma area. Probably a third of the 23 footers (double axle - under 4500 gross with stabilizers) have the bolt on receivers for double tow or bike rack etc...CURT has one that rates 3500 gross. Would NEVER push that, but I've talked to guys that double their I/O ski boats - no problem. In fact looked at one yesterday in Little Rock. NO ONE (Individual or salesperson) has mentioned substandard or famous substandard weld issues. I was hoping to get comment on any newer rigs, say 2015 and above in states where its legal. A lot of East Coast and West Coast - Obviously not legal. But thanks for chiming in. Thanks all.

Talk to the frame manufacturer first. If it wasn’t offered as an option it probably shouldn’t be done. Don’t bring it to California, Commercial Class A with doubles certification is required.

When I lived in California, you also can't double tow unless the first trailer is a 5th wheel.

Generally, the states east of the Mississippi don't permit doubles. Even if your vehicle is registered in a state that does permit them, driving with them in a state that doesn't could mean trouble with the law.

Given the number of bumpers that I’ve seen that have torn and twisted, I wouldn’t trust it to haul a 1,000 lbs. trailer.
If I considered this, it would be a frame mounted hitch. And I’d have someone go through and reinforce the frame at strategic spots. Especially at the axles since the tongue weight is going to mess with it there (we saw a frame failure posted here a few years ago after the owner installed a swivel wheel trailer for a golf cart).

The 23 foot frame should pull that no problem, with install as shown. Thanks for the post with pics!

double towing
Think of the child's game, "Crack the Whip". What ever is last in line, takes the inertia. I had a receiver hitch welded to the frame of my previous pop-up 4K lb. trailer. I was carrying 2 bikes on a nice heavy rack-"Kuat Rack". I spent $300 on materials. The 1 st time I used, I could watch the bikes bouncing higher than the top of then trailer. going 55 MPH. Pulled over and added about 8 bungees and foam blocks to get home. Many issues, none positive about putting more weight further back. Same bike rack @ 75 behind my truck, bikes do not move. A case of Tail Wagging the dog.
