Recommendation on auxillary fuel tank

I'm interested in getting an auxillary fuel/ tool box installed in the truck. Looking at a transfer flow or RDS. Open to feedback, suggestions and first hand experience on these 2 or any others you are using. Also if you have any suggestions on installer in the Houston, TX area I would like to get the name as well. Thanks for the help in advance.

I had a 91 Gal. RDS unit in my truck when I bought it. I will tell you it was a well built unit which I really liked. I never really used it so I can't comment on that but from what I have read they work really well with the RDS kit which ties into the fuel neck.

I have a 100gal tank that I had special made with a 12 volt pump. I had a local welding shop build it. If you have a Tractor Supply store in your area check them out, they have all kinds of fuel tanks plus they sell 12 volt pumps.

I currently have a Transfer Flow 40 gallon tank/tool box combo. A bit pricey but IMO well worth it.

https://www.transferflow.com/fuel-ta...ox-tank-combos

Had one in my last truck too (attached pic) which was a standard box where it didn't interfere with the fifth wheel hitch at all.

I am considering an aux fuel tank of some sort. My question is do they flow into the stock fuel tank or are they separate? Is there a fuel gauge? I have the stock ~~26 gallon tank and would sure be happy with an additional 40 gallons or so.

Transfer Flow has 2 types which both pumps the fuel into the main tank via the vent tube.

I've never seen both systems so I can only comment on mine. Mine monitors the fuel gauge and when it gets down to the pre programmed level the pump comes on to top up the tank. It comes on just below 1/2 and stops pumping at around the 3/4 mark.

Mine doesn't have a gauge but it doesn't take long to figure out when the aux tank is empty.

I put in the optional switch as well which also has a light on it when the pump is active.

Click on the link in my post above for more info...
Hope this helps.

I have a 51 gal RDS tank/toolbox aux tank, best thing I could have done, ordered it from Northern Industrial and installed myself, it is set up for a gravity feed so no extra
Cost for transfer pump. Installation was easy, it comeS with the RDS installation kit. Cordless drill, some fuel hose & hose clamps, I also installed a 1/2 ball valve
Between aux tank and factory tank for isolation. I also cut 1/2 thick rubber mat to cushion tank from truck bed.

The fuel gage reads full as the fuel gravity feeds the factory tank, when my gage starts dropping I know the aux tank is empty.

X2 on what RubyDually says. I used to sell Transfer Flow Aux tanks when I worked at a truck equipment dealer. There are other fuel tanks available for fuel storage but this the only one we recommended for hook up to and existing fuel system. DOT legal and tested for limited fuel spillage in the case of a rollover. Not cheap but top quality.
Also check this information. https://www.transferflow.com/regulations

I want a Titan. I do NOT want to drive to California to install it, and I am unsure of how to get it to function correctly with fuel gauge. But it's not high on my list.

Aux tank isn't going to fit with my ReTrax cover......which is a requirement! Need a replacement. Sure wish I could get 100 gallons, though.

x2 on mlwilliams808. I did exactly the same with a 45gal tank. I never have to fuel up with the 5r attached and the tank has paid for itself with fuel cost savings. I used to leave the ball valve open on my 2011 f250 but now drive a 2015 Silverado 2500hd and an error code was set when the fuel tank gage read full for an extended period. Dealer could not tell me why. So now when the primary 36 gal tank gets low on the road I pull over and open the valve and by the time I get to my destination the primary tank is full and I can close the valve.

Transfer flow works with installing dealers all over the US. We did it here in Atlanta.

From a vehicle performance standpoint, gravity feed fuel systems can adversely affect federally mandated, manufacturer implemented, on-board vehicle diagnostic systems. In the case of many newer vehicles, a gravity fed system keeps the main fuel tank overfull and will likely result in a diagnostic trouble code. In addition to being a nuisance, drivers may miss valid vehicle issues because the check engine light remains on.

Let me show you a picture of my 100gal tank, I had the tank in my 2500 Silverado and I had a flat cover over the bed of truck. You had to lift to cover up to get at the tankClick image for larger version

thanks booboo. That really helps. Do you have any direct experience with this and if so how did you deal with it.

My only experience is from the sale of the Transfer Flow product. We sold other in bed fuel tanks but they were not suitable for direct connection to a vehicle fuel system. The people at Transfer Flow are very experienced with what works, especially being manufactured in California with all their EPA laws.

I can attest to that!

I needed to call them for a small issue and they were on it immediately and had the fix within a couple of hours.

We have an inbed tank from KSH in Lake Havasu. Just hit a toggle switch to change from the original tank. Custom made to fit between the front tool box and the air hitch. Add the V-box at the rear and it is a full bed.

I bought a 40 gal TransferFlow ,it's a little small but I wanted it to be below bed level so I can close my roll up cover .it has elect pump and works great as I have to stop fairly often to fuel since the main tank is only 28 gal. Yes that's all folks and I have the 8 ft bed and I installed it myself

I have a 63 gallon RDS tank that ties in to the filler neck of the main tank. Works wonders. I'll drive from Oregon to so Cal without filling up but it's about $250 each time I fuel up. The only thing I don't like is the cap is a little taller than my bed rails which would prevent me from putting a cover. Here are some pics.
