Reese Dual Cam 26000 sway control.

Hi,
We are looking to purchase either a 2017 Micro Lite 21Ds or a 2104S.
I have my old Reese 26000 dual cam sway control ( from the 70's).Would this be a better choice than a friction type control?
The tow vehicle is a 2016 Chevy Tahoe, 5.3 with a 3.08 rear end rated to
tow approximately 6400 pounds.
Thanks for your help..

The issue is what is the Bars weight range?
They vary from 500# to 1200# in that age group! Bars are used in certain tongue weight range! Youroo!!

Your old dual cam is going to be much better than any friction sway control.
As the previous poster said, you may have to change the bars to a more appropriate weight rating, depending on what you have.

Dual Cam

Stay with the Dual Cam if you can!!! I had a friction control on my Roo 17 and when I put the Dual Cam on it made a world of difference. Admittedly I was running at the ragged edge of my TW rating but I would stay with the Dual Cam. I had an older reese hitch and was able to change to the dual cam by simply installing the Dual Cam parts so I know it was the dual cam that made the difference. If your bars are setup for a heavier trailer then you might have to change them, but etrailer sells all the separate parts. I have since changed TW but still wouldn't go back to the friction system. Had a friend watch as semi's went by and he said it was amazing to see how the trailer made a brief sway and then jumped back in line.
Happy camping.

Reese

Thanks for your reply. The Reese dual cam sway have always been one
of the better (perhaps the best) out there.

Side question on sway control

I currently have a standard WDH with friction sway control. Is there a way to retrofit to dual cam control with out having buying a whole new setup? I see that the ends of the bars are different on the Reese hitches.

Burnking - Reese retrofit

Not sure what your starting with but I will tell you what I did and see if it helps. I had an older Reese head unit with straight bars that were likely the 1000 lb size. So I wanted to add the Dual Cam so this is what I did.
1. Looked at my head unit and noted that I needed to raise the ball since the newer head units set the ball higher. A one inch longer shank would likely have worked but I wanted a little more height anyway so I went with a two inch extended shank.
2. Ordered 800 lb bars since I was pulling a Roo 17 with an Escape but order the ones that will best fit your needs. etrailer sells all the different bars.
3. So now I had the right bars and the right ball height all I had to do was order the dual cam assemblies.
It all worked together as if it came that way as a package and cost me less than $300 rather than over $500. The Dual Cam addition made by combination very drivable and not having to unhook anything during backing is great.
FYI - I read the directions a couple of times, drilled and taped carefully and once I got everything on I took the rig across the street to the college parking lot (Sunday afternoon) and fine tuned the settings.

Reese Dual Cam W/D model 26000

Another question(s).
We are looking to purchase a 2017 Rockwood Mini Lite 2306. The unloaded weight is 4400 lbs., hitch weight 510 lbs., with a cargo capacity of 1425 lbs. All weights are approximate. The tow vehicle is a 2016 Chevy Tahoe, 5.3 with the 3.08 rear end. Chevy rates the Tahoe to tow 6400 # with the 3.08. I have a Reese 26000 with the dual cam (add on).The bars that I have now are rated at 750 pounds. Do I need to change
to 550 pound bars or ????
Thanks for all the help so far.

You should not have to. The bars have a load range and 750lbs would be the upper end of that range. I used 1200 lb bars on a 900 lb hitch weight for years with good results. I`m still using those bars with the old style Reese DC on the new trailer and it works just fine. I will also add your LOADED tongue weight will be heavier then the published 510lbs empty.

If you had twelve hundred pound bars I would change them but I use 800 pound bars on my Roo17 and they ride fine.

Agreed 1200 lb bars would be too much for the OP but he should be fine with 750`s.
