Reese hitch/ new trailer question

We're picking up our new Rockwood 8327SS in a week or two and this trailer weighs just over 3k more than our old trailer (trailer is 8600lbs) I have a Reese 1400lb weight distribution hitch with a friction bar. I'm towing it with a 2016 F250 Super Duty super cab long bed. A friend of mine (who also has a camper) said I might want to look at a better anti sway control set up, any thoughts?

By no means an expert but I would call anti sway and weight distribution two separate topics. Yes a weight distribution hitch helps with sway but its not it's main focus. If you HD truck isn't going to sag from the tounge weight get your self a friction type slide anti sway control bar vs a bar style weight distribution hitch.

Prob your own personal preference based on how it tows.

I never had an anti-sway bar with my weight distribution hitch. Only one time did I feel the need for it (nasty cross-winds coming from the Gulf of Mexico across I-10). I otherwise towed all over the Hill Country of Texas and points east until I updated to a 5th wheel. Remember, this is just my experience. Others may have a different experience.

That's what I have now (friction bar) along with the weight distribution. Our old trailer was a 2018 Keystone Passport that only weighed 5200lbs so he thought with the drastic increase of weight I might need a better anti sway control. Never had an issue with the set up on the old trailer even in gusty side winds.

I did the same thing you did with the Reese hitch. Works fine.

Look into a Hensley hitch

I switched to Hensley hitch, no more sway. They sell rebuilt ones with a like new lifetime warranty

try what you have, if any issues a blue ox sway pro (what I use) or a equalizer 4pt would be a good reasonable upgrade.

Sway Control

Since you currently have a Reese hitch, have you looked into going to the Dual Cam option for sway control? I had a friction system on my old trailer but I never felt it worked very well and it was a pain if I needed to backup. I have been very happy with the Reese Dual Cam system and was able to retrofit it onto my old head unit for a reasonable cost.

I tow a slightly heavier and longer trailer with a Reese hitch without a sway control. Last Monday I towed it from Moab UT to Albuquerque NM when the wind was gusting to 50 MPH. Yes, the trailer moved some with the gusts but it was easy to correct. At no time did I feel that it was unsafe or out of control. The following day I towed it to Oklahoma City with only 40 MPH gusts.

I would give your current rig a try and later add sway control if you feel you need it.
