Reese Pro Series 16,000 5th Wheel Hitch Removal Question

We just took delivery of our new 5th Wheel and had the dealer install a 16k Reese Slider Hitch. How hard is it to remove when not in use. And more important how "Heavy" is it. Can one person do it?

Thanks.

I have a Reese 20k it's heavy but doable.
I pulled the four pins and left it hooked to the trailer... That was easy

I leave mine attached to pin box also. I'm fairly young and able but why bother, it's too easy.
When it's time to hitch up, I'll back under part of the way, drop the trailer enough to release the pin and move the hitch by hand into the rails. Once it's pinned in, I'll back the rest of way under and reconnect.

I only did it once... but I backed under it, lowered the trailer, and put the pins in

The Reese 16K slider as a complete unit is very heavy. 1 person can usually maneuver it but loading/unloading it from the box of your truck will be a chore and likely put your back out. However the Reese hitch comes apart in 2 pieces. There will be a large pin right in the middle...pull that pin and the head that holds the kingpin will come off the base, then you can more easily move it out in 2 pieces.

It just takes a little patience

I have a '06 Silverado 2500HD long bed and I've pulled the Reese 16K several times. I use my foot to kick out the pins (after removing the cotter pins (sp) and muscle to hitch up to the front of the bed. Strap it down and then crawl my 75 yr old butt to the tail gate and then strap on my parachute and hope for a safe landing.....

I have the Reese 15k Slider.
In two pieces it's manageable.

for the first winter in 4 I took mine out of the box. 2 person job unless your a brick house. lift smartly not stupidly. too easy for an old man like myself with medical issues to pop a gut lining,. wish I had left it in the box now because this truck spins on 1 inch of snow.

I remove mine in 2 pieces. Pull the head first then the base. (I bought a furniture dolly from Harbor Freight and built a small table for it. The table is the same height as the tail gate of my F350.) I then walk the base to the rear of the truck. Put the base on the table, replace the head on top of the base and roll it into a corner of the garage.

All that said, I have thought of a come along. I could just pull the hitch in one piece. Then pull the truck out and lower the hitch on my table. Maybe someday.

Better yet, get one of these... often on sale at Northern Tool for $60 or less.

Awesome. I didn't realize that the hitch separated like that. No tools required. Thank You

A table on wheels is a great idea!

Any concerns if I leave it in the truck. The tonneau fits without touching the hitch.

I leave mine in. I don’t use my truck for anything else other than to tow the trailer so no need to remove it. I also have a tonneau cover on my bed.

I have a Curt 20k with a Curt slider for the Ram in bed puck system.I leave mine attached to the king pin and lift it out with the landing legs of the trailer. When I put it back in I release the slider and back under it then lower the 5th wheel hitch close slide the slider around a little as needed and drop into the holes. I find this the easiest way to remove and reinstall. I have tried separating into chunks and moving or using a hoist and pulling as a unit.
