Registered Weight

Is anyone or everyone registering their TV for its loaded weight? In Vermont my F150 is registered as a passenger vehicle at 6099#. With a full tank of fuel and me in the drivers seat I am already at 6200#. With the family and TT in tow I am getting pretty close to my GVW of 7700#. If I were to register for my GVW it would double the cost of my registration. I am guessing it still is cheaper than a ticket if some state ever weighed me. We are headed for Maryland in a couple of weeks. We will be headed through NY, NJ, PA and of course MD. Has anyone ever been weighed? I think last year I saw a weigh station that said any vehicle over a GCW of 10,000# must stop. By the time I read the sign and it registered I was over that weight I was already by the station. I can't recall which state it was but I am guessing PA.

Not sure, but around here, all RV's are exempt.

My GMC dealer had me register at my max gross weight 9200 pounds.

I believe the rules of your state apply to the registration weight requirement.

Some states require "CDL-like" certification for RV's over a certain weight; some require a "rider" to your regular driver's license for even 5th wheels over 10,000 pounds.

So stupid question, you don't have to have a certain license to pass through states do you? For example my dl is good in my state but not in a neighboring state kind of like a concealed carry permit doesn't work state to state?

That's how it appears.
Maybe a state trooper from CA or one of the other states might chime in here.

It looks like 15,000 pounds on the 5th wheel camper and 10,000 on the travel trailer is the magic number for CA.

A few other states have length and similar weight restrictions.

Also thinking motor homes with TOADS might need to investigate further too.

Vermont DMV just told me I need to be registered for the loaded weight. I wonder how many people actually do? I better check and see what the fine is. Ight be cheaper just to the state another $70!

Can't type!
It might be cheaper just to send the state another $70 instead of paying the fine.
