if it's used for commercial purposes, it has to have a registered gross weight of over 3000 kg to pay more than a car.
If it's used for personal purposes, it has to have a registered gross weight of over 4500 kg to have to pay more for your licence sticker.

Hence my registration at 4491. Personal use. No annual inspection.

My previous post was about paying more than the current $120 for your licence sticker.
The annual inspection requirement is a different thing and it doesn't matter how you use your pickup because it's about ensuring your truck is mechanically fit.
MTO enforcement officers admit they don't have a mandate to enforce the law on personal use vehicles. So, the law exists and you aren't complying when pulling your 5er, but MTO rarely enforces it so almost no one registers their pickup with the camper weight and they avoid the cost of the inspections.

Just bought a 2016 F350 and it is registered for just under 4000kg. No yellow sticker, no inspection needed.

Brian, my GVWR is 4491 kg, too. What are you paying for your licence plate sticker?
To correct my Post #41...
This web page confirms what I was told today by Service Ontario - a commercial vehicle (i.e. all pickups) used for personal purposes and weighing under 3000 kg is $120/yr.
https://www.ontario.ca/page/renew-licence-plate-sticker
If it's registered at over 3000 kg, this web page has a calculator that says a RGW of 4491 kg (4501 - 5000 range) will cost $260/yr.
https://www.apps.rus.mto.gov.on.ca/j...do?method=view
I was also told by Service Ontario that I can fill out a form to change the registered weight. I plan to take my setup to a scale next week when we're loaded to camp so I can see the real numbers.

That first link proves my point about commercial and commercial used for personal being two different categories. I was in northern Ontario when I got my sticker renewed. So the price went down for personal use but back up when they realized I lived in southern Ontario.

I just bought a 2016 F 350 SuperDuty Crew cab. Licensed for full 11,500 use a personal vehicle with no annual inspection required. It is personal use that gets the nod to no annual inspections. The dealer went through this twice for me with MTO and licence office.

Congrats on the new F350, Brian.
I presume your dealer was talking to someone at Service Ontario, not MTO enforcement because MTO enforcement would know better. Did you call the nearest weigh station to ask them? I provided a link to all the weigh station phone numbers in an earlier post. If you registered the new truck at 11,500# they should have required the inspection sticker.
Strictly according to the law, any pickup found, upon inspection, to weigh more than 4500 kg (9920#) requires an annual inspection sticker. So, if your previous F250 or the new F350 is weighed by MTO enforcement and found to be over 4500 kg and you don't have the inspection sticker, you'll be fined.
In practice, MTO enforcement says they are not mandated to enforce weights on personal use vehicles and it's unusual to be pulled over towing a TT or 5er.
I find it hard to believe that MTO or Service Ontario would knowingly ignore the Regs upon registration which means the Service Ontario clerk simply doesn't know what the Reg. says and makes the same assumption that most people do.
I think we've beat the inspection topic to death. Aside from the annual inspection aspect, I'm curious what your annual license sticker cost is if your F350 is registered at 11,500#?

According to the app, 11,001 KG to 12,000KG is $711 for 12 months

I am registered for my vehicle weight wthout trailer. 11500 lbs is max weight not KG
According to the licence bureau I went to today I am registered per rules. I am not commercial use and total trailer weight is under the 13,500 threshold as stated on the MTO site along with other determining factors like original box, no tool box style etc. Commercial rules on For Hire operation even apply to F 150's if HD package is included.

Brian, can you please post a link to the MTO webpage that says the threshold for trailer weight is 13,500# (6,123 kg).
And what did you pay for your license sticker if you're registered for 11,500# (5,216 kg)? The app I pointed to says it should be $282 for 12 months.

My plates were transferred from the F 250 and run out in Feb. I will be able to tell you then. With all the dealer Mumbai jumbo it's hard to determine if anything extra was charged or they ate it because they messed up delivery.
There are several variables to exclude the annual inspection like stock box. No tool box, hauling for work while being paid. I will find the link and post.

Renewed my licence sticker today. I had them lower my RGW to the 4491 kg GVWR of my F250 so that no annual inspection is required. They charged me $246 which is less than the $260 that the MTO website I linked to earlier said it would be.
The truck will be under the GVWR when the TT is hooked up but the trailer axles will be just over the 2800 kg threshold. Since MTO enforcement says they don't have a mandate to enforce the regulations on pickups being used for personal purposes, I'll take my chances.
