I kept chains on the tires as this lawn tractor could be use to pull a small plow. It worked fine for me. I also had a much cheaper 10 hp, 36 inch cut riding mower that I could move the trailer around either in the back yard or where it was flat. The trailer had somewhere about 450 lb tongue weight and had 4 wheels. This was in the early to mid 80's.
I am not sure it would pull some of the big boys that are out there, but the wheel horse would move mine with no problems.
I wouldn't be one to follow as I had a tendency to abuse my toys as I also use them to move snow, or do other things as needed other then cut grass. Both were worn out when I got rid of them with the wheel horse suffering a major lose of oil pressure when the drain plug for the oil pan came out.
I believe the old Wheel Horses were Garden Tractors,,, not Lawn Tractors ??? And yes there is a big difference !!!

As far as the rest of what you said....
Actually if I tried to move my 3 ton TT with my Deere riding lawnmower I would end up on TV. "America's something or other".

Wheel Horse made both Garden Tractors and Lawn Tractors. I had the lawn Tractor. {32 inch cut, 8 hp engine and lawn tires} I made up a bracket for the back that would pull the plow attachment. It came with a dozer blade to push snow. I left the chains on most of the time due to what the lawn tractor was used for.
One work horse beast. I worked that mower to death.
I know now that moving that trailer wasn't the sharpest thing I ever did, but at least the hill wasn't steep and the trailer had a break away cable for the brakes so if I pulled it the trailer would stop. I was smart enough to never take it down the hill, only up.
Some of the things we did in our younger days make stories to tell setting around the camp fire now.

You'll burn the clutch out and probably other things, don't do it.

Sarcasm can be funny..........just ask Don Rickles.

Without the humor here, this Site would basically be a "Dynamic Technical Reference Tool".

The only folks I've seen upset here are those that want to tow a Double Wide Mobile Home with a 6 cyl manual, short wheel base truck, and those that want to do something nutsoid and want approval first.

Lighten up. And bring it on.......... life is short. Laugh with me.

I'm curious now. Just how did you pull it down the hill to get it there in the first place?
