RoadWing rock guards
I picked up a set of rock guards for free! They were in rough shape but a little TLC brought them back to life. Sand blasted, re painted with an epoxy undercoat paint. Here's a before and after.
My neighbour thinks they are too wide for my truck. Looking for opinions. Should I cut them down a bit? I thought they should stick out to protect against stray rocks etc.

Very nice job on the restore.
I agree with your neighbor, cut them down to the next bolt from the outside one.
I would trim a little off each end of the flaps to maintain the logo centering.

I'm guessing that they are the same width as the trailer. So as long as you don't drive with it on without the trailer you should be fine. There are regulations for width but with the trailer should be okay.

Thanks guys! I'm picking the new trailer up tomorrow. I'll see how it looks when hooked up.

If you only have them on when towing the 8-foot-wide trailer it should not be a problem but if using without, you will be a serious hazard to others (and your shins).
I just got a set of 'Rock Solid's off Amazon and they are about as wide as the bumper - a few inches wider than the TV rear track. I figure if anything is thrown by the tires that misses the edge of the flap, its going to keep on going on that trajectory and miss the trailer too.

Ya they are just for the trailer. I had it hooked up yesterday. I think it looked alright. I'm gonna leave them the way they are.

What about when you have to make a sharp turn? Won't they hit the corners of the trailer?Just asking,as I don't see how they could not hit.

Well they only come out 5" from the truck. And the whole unit is attached just 1" from the bumper. I picked the TT up from the dealer, drove it through town, down the hywy, and was able to back it into my driveway without incident. I think it would have to jackknife pretty bad for them to hit.
