Sorry to confuse you about "Curb Payload"; it has been that kind of day.
I was referring to the "pillar payload" which is what is left when the "as built" weight (referred to as "curb Weight" - which is not on the pillar) is subtracted from the maximum gross weight of the vehicle (which is).
I hope that clears it up.

Hitting the scales is like balancing your checkbook instead of estimating. It's better to unveil the unknown and deal with actual numbers so you know where you stand.
Believe me I do understand how all this stuff is confusing. I also know that some sales staff are more carefree in what they consider to be OK towing.

I have been taking all of is in, so right now the GM book is telling me " under Fifth-wheel Trailing" to pay careful attention to the trucks... PAYLOAD CAPACITY and REAR AXLE WEIGHT RATING.
PAYLOAD IS 1,921 lbs
REAR AXLE WEIGHT RATING IS 4,200 lbs
With is info the book is telling me to contact a GM dealer to help calculate the max allowable payload and GVWR required for the 5th wheel trailering application. The powertrain combination would also maximumize the trailering rating.
Powertrain: 6.0 gas engine-4:10 Rear-4 speed heavy duty trans with a heavy duty tow package, including a brake controller from the factory.

I would be curious to see what they charge you for what you are getting here for free.

Payload figures can be misleading. According to Ford, my truck weighs 5236 lbs .....that is what is on the certificate of origin. With a GVWR of 7200 lbs, Ford says I have a payload of 1964 lbs. But going across the scales, my truck weighs in around 6000 lbs. with me in the seat for a 1200 lb. cargo carrying capacity. Now I have added a bed liner, TracRac rails, my personal gear in the cab, the Reese hitch and a small portable tool box in the bed. Subtracting my ~190 lbs., there is no way that the add-ons weigh in at ~ 600 lbs. (6000 - 190 - 5236). I wish I would have weighed my truck coming from the dealer just to see the true empty weight.

All the reasons why you ignore the BS payload numbers that the factory tries very hard to inflate.
To the OP...just go weight it loaded, ready to camp. Remember to make allowance for the weight of a 5th wheel hitch. It's the first thing I did before I even thought seriously about a 5th wheel.
Otherwise is all guessing and speculation!

I looked again on the post by the drivers door for the payload for my truck and saw a different number then the brochure said, my number on the post was 1,775 and the brochure said 1,921 this number must mean an empty truck. I may try this combo out and see what happens, but I have not ruled out up-grading to a 3/4 ton.

The pillar payload is the "as built" with options.
The "book" one is that model's "S" (or standard) with no options.

I have been posting her status in a separate thread started by Neil Dunn.
http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...ife-30630.html
She is doing much better. Slight fever, but pain is being managed.
Thank you for asking!
