Rocky Mountain Towing

Question for those that tow with a F150 only. Have you towed a Fifth Wheel through the Rockies lower route between Banff and Vancouver. Again looking for people that have done this not wanting to hear from larger truck owners.

Have not towed a 5er but have towed my Windjammer with our F150. I found that keeping the rpm down on the long hills was easier on the truck. By the time I got to the top might only be doing 45 to 50 kph. Most times I would try to get behind a transport truck and keep up with his speed. I would take the Fraser Valley route over the Coq. It is about 1 1/2 hour longer but a lot easier of the TV. When you say the lower route do you mean the TC that runs from Calgary west?

Caper, yes Fraser Valley. Did you feel out of control or fear of stopping on the way down? I was through the mountains in 1998 in an overloaded cube truck, I am sure the roads have improved since then.

Did not feel out of control or had a fear of stopping. I always downshifted at top so the transmission would help keep speed down. I had more problems in Northern Ontario then in the Rockies.
Plus being retired helps because I am not in a hurry to get from A to B and did not try to keep truck at posted speed limit. If I saw a Transport truck coming up behind me I would find a spot to pull over and let him pass. I would also pull over if there were several cars behind me.
