Roll-Up Tonneau Cover Recommendations, Please

With the new 5th wheel, I'm considering replacing my current Truxedo Truxport roll-up tonneau with a lower profile roll-up tonneau. The Truxedo sits 1.5" above the bed rails and I want to maximize clearance between the bed rails and the underside of the 5er.

I've had a tri-fold and prefer the roll up style. The retracting types are way above my budget and I don't like the box taking up space in the bed.

Top of my list right now is the Truxedo ProX15 that will be only 0.5" above the bed rails. The soft roll-up tonneaus seem to be low enough when rolled up to not interfere with the view for hooking up the 5th wheel and the Truxport has never been an issue for quality and handling the weight of snow in the winter.

Has anyone used the Truxedo ProX15 with a 5th wheel? I'd appreciate recommendations for other low profile roll up tonneaus if you use it with a 5th wheel.

Pictures if you've got 'em, please!

I just bought the access brand tonneau cover. I believe the model line is tonno sport. Sits nice and low. Only complaint would be the clamps are cheap. I was able to make it work but will most likely upgrade them at some point. Also, you'll need rubber gasket or something like that for the front gap. It was close to a 1/2in on my Ram. They make a kit I believe but it was cheaper to just run to the hardware store to grab something. So far I've been very happy with it. Grabbed it from Amazon when it had a price drop. Here are a couple pictures. Good luck!

I use BAK Revolver X2 and really like it I've had it now for almost 4 years and have no issues with it other then the felt strps coming lose and drooping down while closed but my understanding this has been addressed in the newer X4 version .....I don't have a 5th wheel so I can't comment on visibility....Here are some pics to give you and idea of how high it is rolled up.

Access roll cover has worked on mine since 02. Sits outside and takes a beating. Can't say how it does in salt but sun, pollen snow pack, branches falling on it and it still looks and works as should. Works well with pulling. No issues with it there.

Only negative is now the Velcro is a bit hard and takes pressure to hold it good. But 17 years ouside that's ok by me.

I bought the Gator ETX Soft Roll Up Truck Bed Tonneau Cover from Amazon. Great fit and easy install.

Thanks for the feedback so far.

The Access Tonnosport looks very similar to the Truxedo ProX15 that I’ve been looking at.

The hard roll-ups are not really on my list just because they’re so bulky when rolled up I think they may partially or totally block my view of the fifth wheel hitch in the bed of the truck. I have that same concern about the hard tri-fold tonneaus since I have a short bed (6’9” long).

I’d appreciate some feedback from 5er owners who use a tonneau.

I have the same Truxedo cover you do now, but I’m fortunate to still have enough clearance between my bed rails and nose. A buddy has the cover you’re looking at and the only complaint he had was the ears on the backside of the pin box would hit the cover rails when turning sharply. It ended gouging the aluminum.

Thanks. At the PDI, the dealer’s tech suggested that it might be too high. (I didn’t have the hitch installed in the truck bed at that time.) I bring the new 5er home from the dealer this weekend so I’m going to remove the Truxedo before I head to the dealer and I’ll see how much clearance I have with bare rails. There is some uneven ground getting into our storage spot at my Cousin’s farm so that’s where I’ll be testing the vertical clearance.

The 5er has the Reese Revolution pin box so side to side clearance won’t be an issue.

I'm happy with the one from WeatherTech, although I do not tow a fifth wheel.

I've had roll up and flip up covers on my last 5 trucks. I currently have the TruXedo Deuce 2 and really like it.

The rails only stick up 3/4" and while it is a roll up, the front part flips back for easy access to a tool box or the front of the bed.

No issues with clearance on my 5th wheel at all.Click image for larger version

Been looking at soft roll ups as well. My main issue is that someone could just slit it open with a razor knife. They don't seem all that secure.
I have a couple things I'd like to keep under one but would cable lock them to the trucks in bed hooks.
I guess the question is does the idea that they're not all that secure make a difference to what you put under it?

Not to me.
My cover is for weather protection only.

Important stuff gets locked in the toolbox or inside the truck... where... if they want it... they will break into those as well.

I learned a long time ago; if they want it... they will find a way to get it. The more you make it harder, the more they damage it to get it and the more you have to pay to fix it. I will do the easy stuff to prevent the opportunist but don't sweat trying to stop the determined or professional.

Thanks. Your 5er and mine are probably very similar and your 2017 truck (assuming its at least an F-250) is probably a little taller than my 2016. I like the Deuce but thought it might be a bit too high off the bed rails.

I got my first Access 10 years ago and just replaced it last summer. Works fine and I think that wear on the first one was expected. One issue, the first one had its cross-bars sewn in place. The new one, which I thought was the same model, has them held in place with Velcro. A bar or two has come loose a couple of times...not a big deal to put back, just an annoyance since it wasn't an issue with the old cover. Oh, the fiver hitch handle (Reese Elite 18K) does rub the underside of the cover, but there's no clearance problem on my F-250. It's also pretty easy to install.

This is exactly the same one we got for our 2019 Ford F350 8 ft. bed. The price was a little over $200 and well worth the price. Easy to install.

I have the one of the Ford roll up covers https://accessories.ford.com/bed-pro...eau-12272.html , and it seems just fine.

One thing to remember is that if the cover doesn't mount on top of the side rails, it mounts between the side rails. On my particular truck/fifth wheel combination there is plenty of vertical clearance between the trailer and the side rails, but in a really sharp turn (close to 90 deg), the kingpin support interferes slightly with the tonneau top support rails.

My truck is a 2016 F-250 XLT SuperCrew gasser with the camper and snow plow packages.

The 5er is an early-2019 (just like a late-2018) Rockwood Signature 8290BS with the Reese Revolution pinbox so the pinbox doesn't swing to potentially contact the tonneau.

If it matters, the hitch is a B&W Patriot 18K on standard rails.

I also Had the BAK (don’t remember the model) but looked light this one mentioned above, with the felt issue as well. It Does interfere with the view in seeing the fiver hitch, with a crew cab. I now have a trifold, but liked the roll up better, except for the visual issue.
