I empty the hot water tank after every trip at well. We noticed a huge difference in towing when we started doing that.

Hard to believe you'd notice a difference... Emptying your water heater will only shave 50lbs off the total weight...

50lbs is a lot of unnecessary weight, imo.

X2. 50 lbs would be extremely hard to notice in anything measurable unless it is sitting on your foot.

My tank is small, 5 gallons, maybe?
Hopefully CW will call me tomorrow and we can get this squared away. Luckily we dont have trips planned in August but we do in September!

If you are referring to the wh tank, they are usually 6 or 10 gal. Depending on the location of wh, if the tank is in the rear, draining the tank would probably add to the tongue weight and not help your problem.

I agree...and disagree. A 1000 lb. bar is rated for a MAX of 1000 lbs. Most bars I've seen have a weight range of about 200 - 400 lbs. That would mean his 1000 lb. bars could be rated at anywhere from 600-1000 or 800-1000 lbs. Even at 600 lbs. at the bottom end, he's most likely at the very bottom of the weight range and, like you said..running closer to the limit could give you problems. A set with a range of between 400 - 800 would be ideal for that setup.

With his tongue at 640#, the 1000# bars are excellent at transferring weight to the front of the truck, but do not flex any on rough roads and therefore transfer all the bouncing to the truck. He needs the lighter bars to allow the bars to absorb some of the bounce. I would imagine he could get by with 600# bars and have a much better ride. 600# bars pulled up about half way would transfer wt to the front of the truck and still absorb the trailer bounce being transferred to the tongue.

Might be just a little too heavy for 600's. It'd ride better, but they probably won't be stiff enough to transfer enough weight.

According to the rep tech from Eaz Lift the bars are rated for more then labeled. As I recall he said around 15%. So the 800 should be correct.

He also asked about the behavior of the bar when I synch them up. I stated it was easy to get on the 5th link, almost didnt need the bar. He stated that was wrong, I should have to put some effort into getting the chain locked in.

Once i have the bars he will help me get them correctly set.

My experience would lead me to believe this is true...

SO... X2 here...

Finally an update.

Following Eaz Lifts instructions I angled the hitch head to 12 degrees hooked up with the 800lb bars and went for a drive.

I'm hooked with only 2 links left hanging so I need to tilt the head up a little to get to 3 links free. Trailer look balanced, will measure it out tomorrow.

Ride is better. Much less bounce. Even on roads I expected to have that oscillation it was better. 70 MPH on interstate it was well behaved with no movement. (Some sway, still thinking about drivers side sway bar)

I will get pics and specs to Mike at Camco for his input but I think I'm close. Finally.

New Bilstien shocks. Not rock solid, smooth rebound.
