Rubber Hitch!

Do they make (Sliding Hitches) for pull trailers? If so maybe this person would NOT have (Caved the truck bed in ,punctured the rear tire, bent the tounge of the trailer, and felt dumb)? Youroo!!

Youroo, are you sure that's what happened in the pic?

The damage/scratches on the trucks quarter panel seem to be too high for the trailer to have caused, and the difference would been even higher once you factor in the tire being aired up on the truck.

But if this happened to you, then you would know. It may be time to fess up. LOL

I almost did that with our little garden trailer. Small trailers are much more difficult to control in reverse, but I stopped paying attention for a second and the thing had whipped around almost to the truck.

Did he forget to have someone hold his beer while backing up?

Went back for your camera? Isn't that like seeing a house fire and going back to get the marshmallows? Lol

When I was a kid, my grandparents would take us camping a lot, they had a Coleman pop up. My grandfather couldn't back into a site to save his life. They would make me do it. Too young to drive but I could back that thing like a champ.

I have a 10' utility trailer, much like the one in the picture, (and NO, it wasn't me ) and I can't back it worth a hoot. Now put a 42' 5er behind me and no problem.

The smaller and shorter the wheel base the harder they are to back up for sure. Still I would have stopped and maybe the pop of my tire.... OR MAYBE MY FENDER CAVING IN!!!!! OUCH!

Ok where are the weight police? I'll start. The trailer was too heavy for the truck and overloaded the tires causing it to pop. That had nothing to do with the lack of backing skills by the driver.

This reminds me of a guy who was trying to back a utility trailer into a driveway across the street. I don't know where he got this thing, but it was about 8' of trailer, then 10' of tongue on the front of it. Very responsive to jack-knifing.

Well, I happened to be outside waiting to get the kids off the bus while I was watching him try to back it in. He was turning in on the passenger side, but instead of crossing into the oncoming lane (sort of, you know how they're not marked in these sub divisions) he thought he could do it all from the one lane. Well no way was he able to do it. When he managed to put the tongue under his bumper on his third try I finally realized this is more an issue of an inexperienced driver than an just a guy who was having a bad day.

I tried to explain to him how to adjust his approach, by making full use of the roadway, but instead he just hopped out and tried to talk me into backing it in for him. Having worked with enough insurance companies over the years, I knew I was having nothing to do with driving his vehicle, but instead I offered to help him push it up his driveway if he unhooked it. It didn't look too heavy, just having a dog house on it and I figured that was safe enough.

Instead, he said he wanted to take one more try at it and went down the block to turn around. I thought he was going to try backing in from the driver's side to get a better angle, but instead he just turned in so he drove over his lawn and circled around to the driveway.

P.S. For the record, I can't back up my little 3' trailer that connects to my riding lawnmower more than 1' without jackknifing it either.

It is definitely a challenge. Usually takes me 2 or 3 times to get it close to where I want it. Sometimes if it is empty, I will just get off and move it!

The idea of a rubber hitch sounds like quite a stretch.

I came scarily close to fully jackknifing my popup with my brand new dually on the pop-up's last trip out. Fortunately for me, my cousin was watching and shouted in time. I'd have been real sad to ding that truck that early on (less than a month of ownership).
