Safe to have slight play in fifth wheel jaws

Hi everyone, recently I bought a Curt fifth wheel hitch and I've noticed a little bit of play within the locking jaws of the kingpin. Just did a test of it this morning in a large parking lot, and saw that when I applied brakes, I could see the trailers skid plate move forward just slightly, but enough to feel it. When I let the brakes off, it moved back slightly. But the jaws are still locked. Is it normal to have this little wiggle room?

I would fabricate metal shims or tighten something and get rid of all play. I had to shim all 4 legs on my Reese hitch to get rid of the movement.

If there is movement now, it will only get worse as time goes on due to the constant movement/banging.

Some slight play in the jaws to the king pin is normal IMO, all of my hitches have had some play there. If you are concerned I would go ahead and talk to Curt support folks I am sure that they can tell you how much play is too much.

I have the Q16 right now, and my trailer grosses at 15,500. Should I upgrade to a 20K?
