Those are the exact version shown in the second picture in post #1. No joy without modification.

My Fastway breakaway cable D ring won't fit either. I found this oddly; well perfectly shaped D ring at Tractor Supply Co.

It fits perfectly.
It's called a carabiner.

So we shouldn't worry about whether the chains actually attach to the new trucks . . . ?

No I didn’t say not to worry. The thread is about fussing on chain attach points to the truck. I didn’t disagree but if most will look at their rigs, the majority of chains would break off the trailer anyway due to such shoddy design.

3/8 gr5 bolt shear strength is over 6000#.

Never had a problem with my 2003hd Chevy, so the guy from Ford must still be looking for a job.

I always start the hook at the bottom and clip it upwards and it fits just fine.

I had the same problem with the 20K receiver. I figured this out on Sunday. When I went for a trial run with the new truck. Went to my local Northern Tool and picked up these larger hooks. Work pretty sweet. Headed out tomorrow for the long weekend.

Looks like a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Safe travels.

I've found that on most hooks all I've done is to cut or grind the "keeper" latch down a bit and it will fit fine for both 3/8 and 5/16 hooks.
