Scorpion Engine

Please play nice...

I've been reading about this engine.
Wow.
I wish I wanted one or could use one or needed one...
Hats off to Ford!
Whether or not you hate Ford or dislike Ford or love Ford, I think that some real cred is owed to them for successfully reversing the air intake/exhaust flow in a hot rod V8.
I had no idea what Ford did. I have no interest in diesels and have not read much about diesel engines.
I am aware of the industrial engines being used in "consumer" trucks and how popular some brands have become.
I think Ford did something really innovative and deserves some recognition for it.
Like them or not they are thinking so far out of the box that we may need some new geometry to get a grip on this.

I'd like to see a reverse flow turbo 5.0 Coyote.
It would be a "stain on the seat" wow in a car.

I just purchased this motor (6.7L powerstroke) I pick it up on Friday! I have done a lot of research after all the trouble with the 6.0L they had and I am with you 100%!! They also engineered two turbos into one housing! They tested the motor to over 250,000 miles on there test equipment and no failures with the motors they put into production!! Hats off indeed!! Not even to mention they have the quietest running motor, the best during passing on a hill while towing and the best fuel economy out of the big three!! Just amazing how well they built this new generation!! (Yes I am biased as well) I have been a ford guy my whole life but have never been this impressed with there diesels! I will update on Friday and tell you how I like it after I pick it up!

Interesting in house Ford engine build...engine is heavier than Duramax but lighter than the Cummins I read.

While it is innovative, there have been many issues and failures with the new motor. When I had my '12, it had injectors replaced at 800 miles, constant issues with motor/ trans bucking and surging and power cutting out. Ended up getting out of it with the lemon law. Also it's known for turbo failures in the 450 up platform. Many need exhaust valves replaced and so on. Many TSBs from 2011 to now. With that said, there are many many happy owners of the new engine. Unfortunately I wasn't and won't be dealing with Ford again for trucks. Good luck with your new purchase, I hope it works well for you. The DEF wasn't an issue and it did get decent mileage too.

Bummer Chewie.
Thanks for not trashing Ford and being honest.
I didn't want to come across as biased. I've owned at least 7 different brands of cars and trucks.
When I learn about an innovation I think that it is really cool that people are working on something that is unorthodox or out of the usual pattern.

Thanks. It's hard not to talk smack after the nonsense I went through. Ford could have redeemed themselves if they would have admitted my truck to having problems. Still after court and lawyers they never said there was anything wrong with my truck. Anyways that's in the past now. I love my Cummins. It's a great truck. I was a solid Ford guy having diesels for may years. I had a 7.3, 6.0, 6.4, and then the 6.7. I felt dirty going with Dodge but so far it's been nice. Like I said before I was an exception and most new 6.7 owners love their trucks. I hope the best for you and you will love the power that thing has.

I'm getting the 6.2 in my truck.

"I hope the best for you..." Thank you, I'll take that!

I read it wrong. Oops. But that new 5.0. Now that's bad! Puts my 93 5.0 to shame.

That 5.0 is in my truck.
It sings when it spins!
I routinely pull hills in 2nd or 3rd gear at 4500 to 6500 RPM.
It's a beautiful noise.
It does not have towing grunt.
The engine is designed for forced induction... what do they have in mind for the 5.0...?
I would like the 6.2 F350 to be my last truck. However, a twin turbo 5.0 F350 would put me at the table at the dealer!!
