I am sure the eTrailer employee was just quoting the manufacturer.

When I've seen these, different manufacturers will state 30-50% with some just listing a new TW rating.

This was a pretty big discussion a few years ago on another forum I visit (don't remember which one) and there was no derating that was standard among manufacturers.

If I were to use one, I would follow that mfg's new rating.

Triguy, I was just questioning his immediate response of "any extension" would reduce it by 50% without the OP stating how much he was extending it. The OP could have meant as little as 1/2"-1". I think a better answer would have been "could reduce it by as much as 50% or more depending on how much extension is used" Just saying...

4kmprs, i had the same issue with my Avalanche after i installed my UF 3500 power jack.
called UF and they said i could rotate the motor head 180 degrees to get the clearance i needed. so i did and it worked.
here's a pic of my setup:

Hitch Extension - Reverse Jack Motor update

Spoke with the LCI Tech re: the LCI Jack and rotating the motor 180 degrees to gain more clearance. He stated that it could not be done due to the groove structure and algnment within the covered motor head area.

Sharing the URL to the LCI jack that I am referring to so if others have this question in the future, they know LCI's response.

Also, re: Hitch/Shank Lengths...Camco offers Eaz-Lift Shanks in various lengths.

I currently have the 48121. The 48123, which is 4 in. longer, looks like it will work from a length perspective. Failed miserably though when attempting to figure out how this 4 inch additional length would impact my tongue weight though.

2a. ADJUSTABLE 2'' SQUARE SHANK HI-LOW
10'' long (comes with hitch)* 48120
12'' long (optional) 48121
14'' long (optional) 48122
16'' long (optional) 48123
http://eaz-lift.com/eazlift/Instruct...structions.pdf (page 2)

Still lots for me to learn. If anyone can assist with the impact of 4 additional inches on the shank, I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

update. ordered the 48123 16" shank yesterday. expect to add a couple washers and a couple quick links to the chains.

i will post pics upon completion. worst case, return the 16" shank and go back to original 10" shank.
