Short towing without the distrubtion hitch

OK, got a question for those who been pulling their TT for a while.
What is max distance you would pull without a WDH?

I am not lucky enough to keep my TT at home.
It sits in a storage park about 3 miles from the house.
I have always hooked up the WDH every time I bring it home to get setup for a trip.

I got to thinking if I really need to spend the time to do that if I am only pulling it 3 miles with the 1.5 miles are only 25 MPH (residential). The other 1.5 miles is only 40 MPH.

I did tow my 35.5' light weigth trailer with no WDH or sway control for 6 miles. I took it easy and was careful. I did not exceed 35 mph. For short distances and at low speeds, I guess it can be done if one is careful.

I would be concerned with the tounge weight overloading the receiver, you could theoretically damage your hitch. I tow our 30 ft TT from storage, about 2-3 miles away and I use the WDH everytime. Better safe than sorry and my Equalizer only takes about 5 minutes to hook up.

i had a 7k 32' TT and never used the WDH going back and forth between storage and my house. Just me but to much time for a 5 minute drive.

Those 2 minutes to hook your WDH you will never get back. On the other hand, most accidents happen within 5 minutes from home.

When we had our TT I would tow between the storage lot and the house without the WDH and no problems. Did this for about 3 years and haven't noticed any problems with the hitch on the truck as I usually always check it over a couple times a season. We now have the 5th wheel and hitching up and unhitching is a whole lot easier!
