Some people should reread all the post. This is a waist of time read post #11 and #13 of mine. Who is going to pull a trailer without the wedge or being locked in with the 5/8 BOLTS WITH 7/8" NUTS. I mentioned jack knife along time ago and that can only happen if you where making a 90 degree turn. Not towing down the highway.

If you read the complete thread, Rugged Brown suggested removing the wedge and towing. Tractor trailer rigs jackknife quite often towing down the highway. It can also happen with a 5er, especially if doing it without a wedge installed. I'm outta here.

I use a stock wedge, greased up, torqued to spec. As it wears in it works not bad and once torqued to spec stays put. Still need to add spacers between the bolts. FTR 44 inch travel is possible but i would need to measure the clearance between the bumper and rig to see how crushed things would get with a short box.

Dave check the wedge, loosen it and drive it home to wedge it in then retighten to spec.

Will do the next time I have the two together on approximately level ground.

Now that I know the dynamics of the situation I will not be trying this even though I have good insurance and access to a tow truck.
