Silverado 1500 6.2L

Hello everyone. I am interested in a wildwood 30kqbs. Dry weight of approx 6900 lbs. my truck is rated up to 10,600 lbs. I am not concerned of the weight more so the way my truck will handle. Now I do have a weight distributing bar and sway control to put on it. I didn't know if anyone has had experience with this truck and pulling this amount of weight. Let me know what you guys think.

Pulled an 08Flagstaff831RLSS with a 5.3L and a 3.23 rear end over 20,000 miles with no problems, so your 6.2 shouldn't have any problems.

For your own peace of mind tho, I would run all the numbers and make sure you are under the GAW front and rear and especially the GVWR of the truck when you are loaded up and ready to go. Many here have been suprized at how heavy the truck gets loaded up and how modest the GVWR is.

Truck should have plenty of power. If you meant you have a sway bar then I would look into an integrated WDH/sway control setup like the Equal-i-zer 4 point or the Reese Dual Cam. Either one would be money well spent.

Payload should be your main concern the 1/2 ton trucks almost always fall short in that catagory 1st. This was why I jumped to a 3/4 ton my travel trailer has a dry weight of 6400 tongue weight of 980 dry. Payload was only 1280 with my 1500 and dropping the trailer onto the hitch with nothing else gobbled up alot of payload never mind firewood, generator, people. My current truck added 1,000 pounds of payload (2,750). Pulling the weight will not be an issue it's the carrying thats gets dicey. As suggested run the numbers I bet payload approaches the limit 1st.

Keep the bed as empty as possible and put all the heavy stuff in the trailer and you should be ok. Keep the tires on the truck to max pressure allowed per the sidewall. If you don't have LT tires, would suggest getting them as P rated tires will wallow a lot with the trailer and you don't want that.

See my signature picture and stats. In the last 12 months I have traveled from Texas to New Mexico, Texas to Arizona, and just got back from New York. I have pulled some of the toughest hills.... ask anyone about Phoenix to Flagstaff or Mount Magazine in Arkansas. Outside of those extreme hills, I have not had any issues. Normal interstate travel has not posed any problems. Engine temps are normal and the tranny does go up as expected but not out of range to cause concern. We generally roll down the road at 65 to 70 mph. We've averaged 9.9 mpg overall on our trips. I put a set of Firestone Ride Rights just before our last trip and it make a world of difference. One thing I want to do next is replace the tires as Coot suggested. With the 5er I am at the upper end of the recommended towing and load capacity for the truck but not over. Except in extreme head or cross wind you really don't know it's there.

That 6.2 is very similar to my 5.7 in my tundra. My toy hauler weighs about 6800 loaded and pulls great. Your loaded will be more but should tow the same. It the payload that will get ya. I'm right at the gvwr of my tundra but still under on my rear axle so I'm not worried about anything.

Just from my experiance.....the spring bars for the WDH come in at least 3 ratings.....8,000, 10,000 and 12,000 lb ratings. The higher rated bars will let you transfer more weight to the front of your truck if you can not get it to sit level when hooked up.

Good luck with your combo.

My Salem should be pretty close to your model. I did upgrade to the 12k bars as the hitch weight was pretty hard on my crew cab. After some adjustments on the hitch i tow pretty comfortable. I try to keep my box light when hauling and dont overload my front pass thru storage. Power has not been an issue with my 5.3, but i won`t be entering any pulling contests!

you'll be fine until you hit a 5 mile hill, then you'll feel it, but you'll be fine. I pull a Shasta revere right now, with a 5.3L Silverado 1500 and on flat grounds and small hills its fine, its when I reach the hills in CT, I wish I had a bigger truck.
but overall, the 5.3 tows fine.

I experience the same towing our 5er, when it starts to pull down, I just reach for the gear shift. Haven't had a problem pulling in the Smokey's yet. Don't go up the mountains at 60, but I do stay up with most of the semi's.

Peak numbers dont tell the whole story its where it occurs. Ill take 385ft lbs at 3600rpms all day over 400 ft lbs at 4400 as an example.

Should have added, I limit it to 3600 rpm in whatever gear it's in. If that's not fast enough, the other folks can pass or tolerate.

Tundra makes the 401 lb ft at 3500 rpm makes for very easy towing.
