Silverado 3500 weight on tags

In Kansas I protest my tags. DMV wanted me buy tags for 20,000 lbs (5er and truck weight combined) but I found that there is loop hole that if the camper has indoor plumbed stool it's exempt. My tags are for a weight of 11,500 lbs but the catch is if I get caught over that amount pulling a cargo type trailer I will be fined. Our local DMV had to eat some crow since they have been over charging people for tags but claim they won't refund because it up to us to figure out if we are over paying or not so our fault we over paid. My tags for my car and my truck are both over 700.00 in Kansas.

35 for the wife's suv, 230 for my truck a year. Trailer is 35 a year as well.

I now know what the weighted tags meant when I see then pass through PA, often wondered what it meant on some out of state tags.

Won't be long before the states will be weighing people and taxing them for the amount of pressure they exert on the soil. Imagine that, a gravity tax.

We also pay a property tax and a yearly inspection before we can renew and pay for the vehicle registration. Trailer does not require an I inspection though.

The vehicle inspection in NC is a joke, most places just take your money

That depends... my DH's old car had dark tint that was legal in NJ but not down here. There was only 1 place we could get the car passed all others flunked the tint.

I take my truck to a shop and he pulls truck in bay and asks for the registration and you pay him and that's it. In a way it's good in NC that you have to pay your property tax on your vehicle when you buy your tags, it just makes it more at one time.

Here in Ontario I register my truck for 11000 kilos(24,250 lbs) in May and down to 4000 kilos(8818lbs) in Oct/Nov. Over 11000 kilos requires an AR license. My truck & 5er has weighed up to 23,900 lbs depending on water carried. I have talked to the MOT and finally was able to get somebody who made sense talking about these weights. If you get stopped by the MOT in this province and they decide to weigh you and you are not registered for the amount of weight both TV and trailer put on the ground, you are liable to get a ticket or three depending on how the MOT officer feels and how the OPP officer feels when & if he's called in. There is reciprocity here. Dealing with the outfit where we get our registration, plates and driver's license done is another screw up as one hand doesn't know what the other hand is doing.

Vehicle inspections in our state fizzled out this year. It cost the state more than it was earning from issuing the inspections. I am interested to see if other states follow suit.
