Sliding hitch question

I pick up a Reese 16k manual slider I found for sale along side the road. I noticed today (1st time using it) there didn't look like there would be much room with the hitch back so I dropped the tailgate before I slide the hitch back. Sure enough had the tailgate been up it would hit the pin box. Is that common?

Wow. Never had to use mine in my 6.5' bed. Swapped it out last year for standard legs but makes me wonder. It sure seemed like plenty of room tho. Glad you caught it in time.

The hitch is wrong for the truck set up. You either need to reset the hitch in the bed or you need to get the correct hitch. Check the Reese instructions for the correct setup of the hitch in the Dodge bed.

I haven't had a need for a slider either, only bought it because it was a good deal...lol. I do not have a manual for the hitch. I know my rails are in the bed where they are supposed to be. No other adjustments or "set up" I can do other than raise the hitch, I could stand a little more clearance. Must be due to the extended pin box on my trailer.

Hmmm. I have a 2005 Ram 2500 4x4 4dr short bed. Reese 30051 manual slider and no clearance problems. I never looked how close, but it doesn't hit.
