Snow chains on your toad
Does anybody know the snow chain requirements on a toad if and when you have to chain up?
Thanks for the feedback.

Not sure about the TOAD, but have had to put chains on one set of wheels on the trailer when "Drives and Drags".

In Oregon you have to put them on drivers of tow vehicle and on one axle of the trailer.

Do they make Transport trucks with trailers run with snow chains?
Just asking because where we get 15 to 18 FEET of snow each winter we have no such regulation....

Pretty simple if it was me. If the conditions are bad enough for chains on the tow vehicle I'd put chains on anything being towed especially if it has braking abilities. It's more important to stop than get going. So if the toad has a brake box it's getting chains. I wouldn't want a tail wagging the dog situation.

Always snow through the Siskiyous.
We've been this way many times with the rv, but this will be the first time towing the toad.

I live in the middle of Canada, so i know snow.
Never used chains in my life.
Never even seen them, except on tv...

I don't think unless there is some freak storm that you will hit snow.
If i did I'd stop or at least travel speed wise weather aware.
If all you wnat to do is go straight then you can put them on the drive wheels only.
if you want to turn then all 4 need chains.
Don't be like the Mustang owner and have a rear wheel drive car and put them on the front.
for a few dollars a year i insured our 5th wheel so that when its attached to the TV and it somehow decides to bust a move and try to pass us, both the truck and trailer and those on the road are insured.

The only place you MIGHT get the correct answer is to contact the California DOT and ask them. I investigated this a few years ago when I was trying to figure out the chain requirements to take my class A Georgetown 327DS to Tahoe in the winter. The information available on the web site was inconclusive.
The final answer I received was that a single set of lightweight wire chains on the outside tires of the rear axle would meet CA's chain requirement to drive on I-80 headed East from the coast. Unfortunately, I wasn't towing my toad at the time and never thought to ask them about that.
My toad is a front wheel drive stick shift and if I was going to chain it up for towing, I'd put the chains on the rear wheels. This should provide the most control when towing. When driving the toad by itself, the chains must go on the front wheels.

Won't have to declare Canadian value shipping it then.
while you get some snow in Snowatobia, we get the Polar Vortex... (a Rick Mercer report theme from a couple yrs ago) and anywhere from between 15 and 18 feet for totals is NB and PEI.
NOTE: none of these images for our southern friends are photoshopped.
The one with the front end loader took several hours to clear the road to a friends of ours farm..
8 to 12 feet at a time. there is a video of the operator trying to clear the white crap.
I plow driveways in my spare time and threw my tractor water pump last January - forcing me to do driveways with a walk behind snow blower. Took me sometimes 8 hours after work.
