So confused with all these numbers

My husband and I are picking up our first TT Friday, we went with a salem factory select 195bh. Dry weight is 3003, his TV is a 2008 Dodge Durango, max tow capacity of 5,900.

To me it sounds like we should be fine, we aren't planning to tow with water, but still my brother in law says we will be maxing out with all the gear we will have.

I know I don't have all the information for you but it's all I know off the top of my head. Does it sound like we need to be careful with what we bring?

I don't think you will have problems with the Durango but you will have to be careful how much you put in the trailer. You only have 900 lbs of cargo carrying and it my be less if there are options added to the trailer. I would say you will not want to travel with any of your tanks full. Your tongue weight will be around 500lbs do you know you're max payload for your Durango?

You should be fine as far as towing capacity goes. Your talking about another 3,000lbs of towing capacity. So if you put 1,000 lbs in the trailer, that still leaves plenty of TV occupants and stuff.

The other consideration is the weight the TV can handle and the RV can handle. Just make sure your fine with the TV GVWR numbers. You do not want to overload the truck. Same for the RV - watch the GVWR.

The 900lbs of cargo capacity will be much less in reality.
That's because the dry weight is a fantasy number. It's based on a stripped down version.
What does the trailer's yellow weight sticker say its actual weight is?
I'm guessing that your actual cargo capacity will be around 500lbs, once you subtract options, battery and propane.

Be aware that the changing gears Site will give you a worst case towing weight (ie lowest) if you are supper conservative. If you go by some of the numbers it tells you a half ton truck will have a had time pulling a popup.

I don't know what the payload of the Durango is, and I will have wait until Friday to look at the yellow sticker. Lol

I'm guessing the only way to really know is to find a weigh station and see for sure.

I just want to make sure before we head out for a 3 hour trip that we will be safe.

You should be okay. Do you have a brake controller installed?

Yes, they will be installing a brake control, etc. when we go Friday while they show us how to use everything.
