Speedometer recalibrate

I put oversized tires on my 2500 Hd for obvious reasons. They fit just fine but they threw off my speedometer by 2 to 3 mph. That’s not an issue but the odometer is. I calculated that the odometer was off by 40 miles on my trip to Florida. Does anyone know if it can be recalibrated?

I have oversized tires on my 2500HD as well. Would like to know the answer too. I knew the speedometer would be thrown off before having them installed, but didn't know it might throw odo off as well.

Speedometers being off by 2 to 3 mph is nothing. Many speedos are off from the factory by up to 5 mph. That's why you can get by driving 5 to 7 mph over the posted speed.

My 1500 speedo is over by 3 mph, it's been checked by sherriff's radar and gps. When I'm doing 63 on the speedo and gps, I'm actually doing 60 according to the deputy. The tires are the same as the stock from the factory.

It has to be re-calibrated in the trucks computer. This can be done with the correct type reader that plugs into the the trucks ECM link/ Data link. Some OBD readers are capable of this.

Speedometer recalibrate

A file has to be flashed to the ecm.

When I had my duramax tuned they also sent a file to re configure my speedo via a programmer, the speedo was 4 mph off according to gps.

I was told by both Chevrolet and a cluster reseller that the speedometers and odometers cannot be calibrated through the computer. Maybe things have changed in the last two years, though.

When I had my 2006 Chevy 2500HD I used a SuperChips FlashPaq to change the tire diameter to correct Odometer and Speedo after adding 35" tires on the 6" lift.

When I had my 2009 Silverado, I changed the rear gear ratio, and this required a speedometer recalibration. I ended up purchasing a JET Performance Programmer, which plugged into the OBD port, and was able to plug in my gear ratio, which fixed my speedometer and odometer issues, as well as turning my ABS light off.

Before I went the DIY route, I did call three different St. Louis area Chevrolet dealers, and all of them told me they would not reprogram my computer to compensate for the speedometer difference.

YMMV, but you will likely have to get some kind of a tuner for your truck. Mine was around $325.
