Have to wonder if there are any stats for tire failures as it relates to maximum speeds on highways. Example, are there more tire failures in MT/WY/ID/UT/NV where interstate speeds are 80 mp.
Even though all are very low population states, their interstates and highways are heavily driven by TV's heading to quite a few of the national parks and monuments.
I have to say that I have traveled the roads from SE UT to MT many times in the past 5-6 years, and have only seen only ONE TV and trailer pulled over for what looked like a tire failure and it was on the TV; not the trailer.
Will also say, I travel at 80 when legal, if traffic warrants it, and have been passed more times than I can count by large, long trailers and 5th wheels who are at least hitting the 85 mph mark.

The CA 55mph for towing is almost a joke. I have been passed by a CA highway patrol while I was running along with traffic at 65-70 and never got a look.
One would cause a traffic jam and perhaps several accidents if they really did tow at 55, especially on the busy interstates.

I did it in November and December and caused neither at 62mph. Not quite 55, but close enough.

Always tow @ 50-60 and have never caused a traffic jam, even with others going 70-80+. It's not like they can't see a trailer in front of them from miles away and get in the fast lane. DUH!

Multiple states actually have that law. NC is also 55 mph when towing.

Don't think so. Have never seen a 55 mph sign for towing in NC.

NC is often posted higher. Depends on the road.

Living in Calif. I agree that almost no one pulls a trailer at 55. I usually pull at 60-62 as that is what my current tires are rated at plus it feels safer. However, I am often passed by other RV's. For us we are not in a big hurry to get anywhere and want to be sure we are driving at a safe speed for the 5th as well as the tires. When these tires go I will upgrade to one that are rated for 70-80 however.

Always go between 55-62 still had a blow out on highway seventeen at 45 mph due to construction/destruction of the road.

North Carolina does not have a separate speed limit for vehicles towing travel trailers. The state wide speed limit is 55 mph on highways or rural roads and 35 mph in cities unless otherwise posted. Most interstates reach posted speed limits of 65 or 70 mph.
Illinois has a separate posted speed limit of 55 mph for RV's and TT's which surprised me the last time we were up that way visiting family.

Need to get the app.
State Lines
NC. Tow speed 55
Does not mean it's enforced, mainly because main stream America. Thinks it needs to run 80
Much to fast for any RV

You app is wrong or you are misinterpreting what it says. This is from the NCDOT where speed limits are specified. There are no exceptions made for trailers or RV's anywhere in the remainder of the document. This is also reiterated in the NHTSA summary of state speed laws.
3.1 Statutory Speed Limits
The statutory maximum speed limit within municipal corporate limits is 35 miles per hour (MPH) and the statutory maximum speed limit outside municipal corporate limits is 55 MPH (§20-141, b). Statutory minimum speed limits for interstates and other primary
routes on the State Highway System are 40 MPH for roads with maximum speed limits of
55 MPH, and 45 MPH for roads with maximum speed limits of at least 60 MPH, but are only effective when signed
Edit: this is of course unless otherwise posted. NC has a maximum controlled access speed limit of 70 mph.

I guess I am a freak. I just don't want to run that fast. 60-65 is plenty fast for me. If I am in that big of a hurry... someone is bleeding and I need to get an ambulance or drop the TT/5er.
