Don't the majority of vehicles have a relay that connects the 12V "hot" wire only when the key is on? You shouldn't be able to drain the truck battery meaning there is no need to disconnect the 7 pin trailer plug.

Well it depends.

We usually put a little water in the trailer tank and hook up the power cord and that's about it if the pad is pretty level. I unplug the trailer connector from the truck and put the stabilizers and tongue jack down. Keep it simple.

I'm curious now. I know I can run the camper off of the truck- but I am not remembering offhand if the truck has to be on/key in or not. I feel like it works even when the truck is off and key out.

Depends on space available. Electric. Drop front Jacks to stabilize some. Use water from fresh tank on short stops.

Newer Fords, with the OEM Tow Package, have a relay that cuts the power to the trailer when you turn off the ignition. Those who don't have the OEM Tow Package may not have a disconnect relay. It all depends who did the wiring.

For overnighters we do not disconnect from the TV. No one has said anything about that yet...

For 5 secs time, why take the chance? I have an old broken down 05 Silverado and I unhook the cord.

Have done it several times with the old Hybrid, had to be careful with kayak placement for the front bunk to drop. a block to side level, jack and rear stabs down, power hooked only if needing AC. would add a few gallons of water If I didn't before leaving the house. Wired our 7 pin to provide power only when the key is on.

That depends on how early you want to take off in the morning. We usually stay hooked up!

We will almost always unhook the 5th wheel from the truck even for an over nighter even if it is only just disengaged JUST in case of any emergency. Never know when that might occur & can't always know help will be available - only time we don't is if we get stuck and can't find a campground and have to do a Walmart or truck stop.

We stay hooked up as well and do put the Tongue Jack down. I love Cracker Barrels RV spots and a good dinner and breakfast for their hospitality!

I towed a popup with minivans for 7 years, and these did not have that nice feature. So I'm used to just unplugging, just to be sure. If you are sure the systems are isolated, then yes, that's another few ticks saved.

My old Silverado would drain my battery if I left it plugged in.

Want to guess how i found this out?

So We always unplug the pigtail just in case, and wrap it around the electric jack since we put that down
