Super Singles

Does anyone know if they make Super Single tires and wheels for pickup trucks? They seem to be popular in the trucking industry.

They do. But i cant remember if they were in the 19.5" or 22.5" sizes. I was shopping both looking for wheels for my gmc dually and ran across them. Might try googling the above sizes and conversion kits.

I think this might have been the place. You can get a drw to srw conversion using 19.5 wheel/tire combos

They are popular all right till one blows out..

One of the guys at my work drove truck for a Co. that used them for short time.

Because of the cost of new tires they ran recaps, I guess that was a bad idea during the summer.

Trailer and truck damage was expensive to repair and there was the problem of finding a replacement out on the road.

We run them on all of our semis. 445/55r22.5. When one blows it takes the wheel with it, $2k for a new tire and wheel. Recaps are popular but as said above, terrible performance in the hot So Cal summers. We run them because of the weight savings but they are expensive ($750-$1,100 a tire depending in the brand) any way you cut it.

I still prefer the idea of the "butt crack" tires / wheels as my kids call them, or stock duals. If one blows, another one there to at least get you somewhere safe, and no wheels demolished, normally.

Thanks for info. Just thinking. Probably not a good idea. This is the place to ask.

When doing it on a light duty truck, you would just replace the duals with a single if using the 19.5"s. No special tire or wheel like semi trucks use. You just buy 4 tires instead of 6. The conversion will cost you but tires will last almost twice as long as normal E rated tires.

Most 18 Wheeler's with Super Singles have a air up system built in to keep tire inflated if it gets a hole in it and prevent blowouts.
