why super cab over crew cab with kids? The opposing doors would be a huge pain.

I have owned both a Super Cab and now a Supercrew F 350. Quieter ride, suicide doors on the super cab do not seal as well. Towing is smoother as well. Parking, well longer spots needed.

Twice the room in back seat. I have a crew cab and the seats are ao close its uncumfortable on a long ride the kids knees hurt. Seats are hard and uncomfortable. We cant hang tvs on the backrests for fear they would hit thier heads on a quik stop. The cab is just too small in the back for long trips. If you dont have kids go with the crew cab we just love ours except for ling rides and crowded back seat.

I think you are confusing super cab and crew cab. Crew cab has 4 full doors and lots of room. Super cab is the half doors and cramped back seat.

The crew cab is also safer.
There was testing done in the early 2000's and with the lack of a b pillar, the trucks folded when both doors pop open.

I don't know how anyone could argue but pulling a 40' fifth wheel with a long bed crew cab dually is going to give you the safest, comfortable, most stable ride.
Reading on this forum or a truck forum I'm on, so many that complain about chucking or instability usually derive from the owner buying a short bed and/or supercab truck so it fits in the garage or parking at the mall.
For towing and travelling, there is no other option for me. You're on the right track going with a dually right from the start.
Best wishes in your choice.

NO WAY is this going in that garage. But, I bought it for the road, not the garage

My only regret is it takes about twice of a swing when turning. You know the song give me 40 acres and I'll turn this thing around. That is what it feels like. But all in all love the Crew Cab.

Towing, the wheelbase on the Crew would be slightly longer, so in theory make for a smoother ride, but probably not enough to make a noticeable difference on a long-box truck...

I'd go CC, myself; but that's me.
Agreed, I had a cc and now have the sc. Only about 12 inches or so in wheelbase but the interior space difference is significant. The cc could comfortably seat three adults. The sc really only accodates two kids. Also the rear door configuration is maddening.

^^^ This.
I upgraded trucks when the kids came because I just had a regular cab (no back seat). I went super cab to save some $ as I figured it would be a while before he kids outgrew the back seat. I've regretted it ever since... such a pain to get the kids in/out, especially in tight parking lots, etc. It's better now that they are old enough to do their own seatbelts, but really sucked when dealing with car seats, helping to strap then in, etc. Next truck will have 4 full doors for sure.

Also a pain to even put stuff in the back seat, such as my laptop bag when coming home from work...

A couple bad things about an outfit like that, one fueling up will be very expensive, they typically get a lot less MPG than a pickup (4-6 mpg with the Volvo) and in some states you will be required to cross commercial weigh scales and you will need a Class A Commercial License with an air brake endorsement to drive it.. Unlike a pickup and 5er, you will also be subject to roadside DOT inspections and possible out of service violations, none of which you would deal with pulling with a pickup truck.

Finally, it will probably be a standard transmission, 10 or 13 speed and most RV'ers today haven't a clue how to drive a standard box, let alone a 10 or 13 speed Roadranger.

Stick with a pickup truck. less hassle and make it a 4 door long bed.

Here goes another thread way off track. Let's stay on topic. There's plenty of info on the subject of using a truck tractor for an RV. Do a search.
Back to pick-ups.

I could have opened the topic up by calling it super cab or crew cab or big rig. Alas my intent was to gather people's opinions on the two form factors I am deciding between. It's really down to (1) SuperCab fits my garage and can do what I need with a bit more payload. or (2) Crew Cab will be marginally safer, easier to find on lots, more room for the occasional passenger.

Sadly a Crew Cab will spend it's idle life in my RV shed 80 ft away. Granted it's a 30x55x16 Morton Building. Just a cold or wet or hot walk to get there vs in my attached garage. Not to mention the light dim when you open those huge 12x14 doors. Ok not really but these first world problems are hard on a guy.

If you didn't have the dogs, I'd say supercab. I have the same in my Silverado HD. I don't have to carry passengers except very infrequently; when I do, there's still enough room. But I assume you'll be carrying dogs all the time; unless they're small dogs, I'd recommend the crew cab.

The other consideration is cost. If you don't really think you need the crew cab, what's the increase in price for it and is it worth it? Trade-in/resale value may also be a consideration for you.

In the end, only you can answer these questions.

It will be a big Black Lab and likely an Italian Greyhound. We are going to look at a supercab next time near a dealer.

Looking at the Ford Towing guide, I can't help feel bummed that the payload for a 2017 F350 CC Dually 4x4 with 6.7 is only 5003lbs. If I drop the 4x4 and go supercab I get it up to 5637lbs. Truck campers I have looked at tend to be close to 6k wet.

Make sure you are looking at the right numbers. My Silverado 2500HD payload is 2906 lbs.

I get my numbers from Ford's towing guide.
RV & Trailer Towing Guides | fleet.ford.com

When I buy I will make sure the numbers on the truck are what I want.

The guides seem to be "generic" sometimes. Best to look at the specific truck you're thinking of buying before you sign anything.

The payload sticker should be on the drivers door jamb. My truck camper weight sticker is in the glove box.

The real question is how many folks you plan to put in the truck and how convenient it will be for them to get in and out.

You just cant beat the room and comfort of a crew cab but if it's just two people you may not want that much space.

It's your choice.
We did not plan to get a crew cab when we purchased but they had a few on the lot and we got a good deal. Now I can't imagine every getting anything else. When we travel with other camper friends it's great to hop into one vehicle to ride and check things out. Give us more time to visit. And we have a GMC Sierra 2500HD and I can say from riding quite a few miles in the back it's very comfortable. LOVE our Crew Cab!
