You need a good WD hitch. Is it absolutely needed? No. It will however help with the sway.

I haul a 32.5' Rockwood signature ultra-light with my F350 Dually and use a Fastway E2.

Popular choices include the Equalizer E4, Fastway E2, and the Andersen.

Equal-i-zer 4-point Sway Control Hitch, 90-00-1000, 10,000 Lbs Trailer Weight Rating, 1,000 Lbs Tongue Weight Rating, Weight Distribution Kit Includes Standard Hitch Shank, Ball NOT Included https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004TR8F5C..._7z40CbQCVFQR4

Fastway Black 92-00-1065 e2 Hitch-Trunnion, 10K with 2-5/16" Pre-Installed Ball https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MDMEUJM..._EA40Cb4140Y42

Andersen Hitches 3324 | 'No Sway' Weight Distribution Hitch | 4" Drop/Rise | 2" Ball | 3", 4", 5", 6" Universal Frame Brackets | Includes Sample of Bug Gone https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XY9SCNL..._jB40CbA1TYVBG

Folks will argue all day long on which one is better. I personally don't think you can go wrong with any of those.

I have the same truck and I tow a 294BH with just the hitch and air bags. I pull my camper at 75mph on the highway and it tows great. Dealer told me to tow it a few times to see if I needed a WDH hitch, but he thought that I wouldn't due to a fully capable truck. Just my experience.

IF you decide on a WDH look at the andersen . light weight , no grease , no sway .

Blue Ox is also a popular WDH option. I have the Equal-I-zer 4-pt and really like it.

The need for WDH has absolutely nothing to do with that 1,500 lb rating your dealer mentioned. If you dropped 1,400 lbs on that hitch, your nose is going to lift up -- teeter-totter effect. The WDH transfers that weight back to your front axle and prevents you from towing nose-high.

I have about 6,500 - 7,000 lbs ... pretty light. When I hitched up, my nose lifted 1/4". You could make an argument that I didn't really need any weight distribution at that point. But, I had the hitch and I did the work ... brought the nose down 3/16". But, the main advantage I was after was the sway control.

So, get a WDH for sway, but also take time to set it up to bring your nose back down.

Good luck.

I like the camco R6... I use it for weight distribution as well as sway.
Your truck will be fine without the weight distribution but will need something to control sway. The higher end WDH setups have it integrated- you could probably get a cheap setup for just the sway but it wouldn't function as well as the integrated systems.

Honestly, that unit may be small enough that sway won't be a problem for you without it. Provided you are staying fairly local. Any long trips it would probably be a good idea to add.

Mr. Wallace your hitch rating may be 1500lbs but that is not necessarily the number that determines if a wdh is needed...that info is in the manual for your truck.

My truck doesn't require a wdh up to the max 2000lbs tongue weight and I don't use a wdh or sway control. Sway control is best accomplished with proper loading and having enough truck to keep the tongue weight nearer the higher percentage makes things easier. It may not be as critical for you but my loading varies a bunch (toyhualer with a high cargo capacity) so I purchased a scale so I can weigh at every pull...I've seen tongue weights from 950 to about 1500. I'm somewhere over 7,000 miles towing this setup across the windy plains and Appalachian mountains and I couldn't be more pleased. Like Pure Luck posted earlier, when conditions are right I like to go 75mph.

Every trailer is different but if the manual for your truck says a wdh is not required for your kit...go test it out.
